Ringworm?

I noticed scaling on the tip of one of my new chin's ears. After noticing that he was scratching and biting himself a lot, and doing much research, I brought him to the vet with concerns that he had ringworm. The vet, who admitted to not be an expert in the chin field, thought it might be ringworm. He dabbed it with non-tincture iodine and instructed me to do so on the infected areas for a week. As well, I've added Tinactin to his dust bath in hopes of preventing future outbreaks. Are there any ways to expedite this process? Am I doing the right thing? How can I keep my other, healthy chin safe (they are and have been separated?) Thank you

i'm pretty sure both cages need cleaned thoroughly and the source of the ring worm may be something in or around the room so new things that may have caused it may need to be removed, separate dust baths is a must and they must be sanitized as well, that is all i would know to do other than keep them away from each other until the infected chin has completely cleared up and stays clear for a while(not sure on time after sickness before they should be reunited)

Did the vet actually diagnose him with ringworm or just guess. It might not even be. My chinchilla has a little scaling on his ears. He is a mosaic, and from what I have read it is just dry skin, but you cannot put lotion on it as it will prevent them from cooling down, and they could overheat easier.

The vet should be able to test for ringworm even if he/she isn't experienced with chinchillas, because I believe the test is the same as it is for dogs and cats. They use a skin scraping.
