Update on my little miracle!

To everyone, especially Jade, Sassy and Christi, and all those in chat last night, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all your help. I think I can call myself about half a breeder now.

Anyway, it was a very long night, which is why I'm posting so late this morning. I was up til about 5:00 am and then had to get some sleep. But she is still alive! I just checked her and she still has a little gasping, but nothing like last night; there also seems to be some crud around her nose and mouth, I'm assuming the fluids coming up. At any rate, I'm going to start supplementing her in a while; I tried last night, but she just seemed to choke on it, so I quit that.

I kept her by my side most of the night and flipped her several times. She probably hates me now, but I just kept her moving. I did have to revive her a couple of times about 1:30 and then again about 1:50, both times she went totally limp and stopped breathing. I just rubbed her back vigorously and kept her moving and she came back ok. Finally around 3:30 her brething eased and she was resting comforatable. I put her back in with LJ around 4:00 and LJ nuzzled her pretty good for several minutes, then around 4:30 I checked and she was over in the opposite corner, then came back around 4:45 or so.

The White & Tan gil is thriving well. She's all over the cage and having a ball! In fact, the cage has a feeding bin in it, the type with the bin on the outside and the bowl inside. Well, the little stinker has figured out that she can get into the bowl and then try to come out the bin, so I'll have to either switch cages, get a different food bowl or block off the bin for now.

Well, I'll post more later, I need a shower and some coffee!

Chinkeep do you have a vet in your area that may be able to see her, in case it is pneumonia(I am hoping not)

I do have a vet about 20 min away that I am waiting for a callback from. He is supposedly well versed with chins, but we'll see. She's not looking good again which is why I called him in the first place.

I'll post more later.

Good! Glad to hear she's doing a little better! I dunno how I will cope if I ever have an emergency. I will know what to do but I'd be so freaked out I'd lose all my memory! You are doing the best you can and that doesn't mean you are a bad breeder!

Well, she's turned back to where she was last night I've talked to my vet in Illinois and she gave me a dosage to start her on Sulfatrim which I thankfully have in stock. I also talked to the new vet here and he said that I could bring her in, but being that she is only 1 day old and all, he didn't hold any hope. He said that I'm probably doing about all that they could do for her. So, she is back at my side and I continue the flipping and a new method that my IL vet told me to do which is lightly thumping the sides of her chest to loosen the crud in her lungs. And, I continue to try and get a little formula in her, but she sputters it back out.

I'll post another update later this evening.

John, I am so sorry. It's really hard when they're that small, you're doing everything you can. Just hang in there.
