treats and toys
What are some good treats and toys for ferrets? I've read of a lot of treats and toys that pet stores sell, but I figured it would be good to get peoples' first hand experiences on different types of both... What are some treats and toys I want to stay away from? Obviously I don't want my other critters to be treats, so there's one thing I want to stay away from What about Yogies? My manager's ferret loves them. Are they healthy? And what about those taffy-looking star shaped things?

the #1 most important thing to stay away from when it comes to toys is RUBBER. Ferrets seem to be a magnet to it- they LOVE it... but it is usually the #1 cause of blockages too. My ferrets love tennis balls- small ones, med & large ones... they love em all. They also have a see through tunnel you can buy for them or to make it a little less exspensive you can go to your local hardware store & buy why dryer tube (the accordian style) it is the exact same thing only white- another favorite! cut of carboard boxes & make tunnels with them of different heights, sizes & width. That should get you started.
Treats- those stars you are talking about are a HUGE hit in my home! Yogis are great too! You can also give them (in great moderation of course) cat treats for treats (I usually get the chicken flavored). Try to avoid too much sugar as excess sugar can cause diabetes & insulinoma. Raisins are another favorite here but that is only allowed on rare occassions since they tend to be high in sugar.
Hope that helps a little

My vet told me that she would recommend staying away from raisins and grapes for my guinea pigs, hamsters, and my soon-to-be ferret. She said that nothing has been proven yet, but since it causes problems in dogs (I think liver failure- it's either liver or kidney) that she wouldn't take a chance. So I've been good, and have stopped giving them that just in case. It's probably unlikely that anything bad would happen, but if it did, I would NEVER forgive myself for it.
