I'd like to add a few things here. Many, not all females really enjoy having a roomate. Males should never be housed together but MANY females will do just fine with a roomie. They are not as solitary as once thought.
It's also important to note, very few hedgehogs are living to be 8. There is the rare exception but the average life span is more like 3-5 years. And please, if you have a pet hedgehog, do NOT feed them bugs from the wild. Use only
pet store bugs. Wild bugs can harbor parasites and may carry pesticides that can be very dangerous to your hedgie.
I also should mention, hedgies need a MUCH bigger cage than a 20 gallon aquarium. Aquariums also aren't ideal cages. The ventilation is very poor and the cages are very heavy and difficult to clean.
