They are senstive to heat changes. If it gets two hot they will escavate(sp?) , and if it gets too low they will hibernate. When they hibernate, most hogs can not get out of it properly. I like to keep my hogs in a room that is about 75-78F. They seem to do well in that temp, when it gets lower, the girls start to show signs of getting ready to hibernate.

I've never had a hedgie estivate on me, even when we lived in Mississippi with no air conditioning and it got to 115 with the heat index in the summer. I think it has to do more with how gradual the changes are than how actually hot or cold it gets. When our hedgies were used to being that hot, I had to caution new owners with a/c to use a heat pad to help hedgie adjust to their homes because initially they would try to hibernate when introduced to houses that were air conditioned (even 75), but after about 2 to 3 weeks, they had made full adjustment.

Our current hedgie room stays around 82 in the summer and about 72 in the winter... the hedgies seem oblivious, but I sure like it better =)
