What's the best brand of wheel?

Hopefully I will be getting my income tax return SOON and I would like to get my little guy a wheel. Any particular kind that is best (or worst)??? Has anyone gotten a wheel from here

How difficult would that be to make........meaning.......how much swearing would I do while making it?

What would be a good size? My guy is pretty small, but how big should the wheel be for an averaged sized hog?

Thanks!

Cool

I bought the satellite-dish wheel for the chins, and sold it to Jen for Camden. They both just loved it. One of the big selling points of that wheel is supposed to be that they don't make any noise; they just fail to mention that if your cage moves with the motion of the running then you are going to have some noise! But like everything else you get ysed to it.

I don't know anything about the hedgies - sorry. (Well, except that I do think that they are cute!)

Good luck finding them a new toy!

I have been searching for hedgehog wheels forever. Every time I decided on one they stopped making them. I think I went to three sights. Then I found the sight that tells you how to make them on your own. The only problem is that they require you to buy an inline skate with a bearing. I only need one of each but they only seem to sell them in packs of minimum 4 and they are like $30 bucks *sigh* Not cost effective if you are only making one. So when I was dreaming of getting a new cage for my little chin I went window shopping at Martin's cages and they have a wheel for only $20. I was shocked and amazed so we splurged for little isabella to have a wheel. She likes it so for and we haven't had any problems.

Its pictured at the bottom of the page the Wobust Wodent Wheel and you can see the hedgie in it. Hedgie wheel link

That front "cap" does come off for easy cleaning in case you were wondering. Hope this helps

Cool! That one looks a little sturdier than the bucket style! I got my income tax return today, so hopefully I can get the wheel ordered by Friday.

How likely is it that they would get caught in the openings of that wheel? My hog is little, so that shouldn't be a problem but you can never be too careful!

It is a lot bigger than I thought and she has no problems with the hole size. That was my big consern and I figured I would just remove the "cap" if there was a problem. It is a really good price too.

Hope it works for you.

My dad made bucket wheels for my two hedgies and I really like them. But whatever wheel you get be prepared to clean it every day; they sure can make a mess! I've found that baby wipes do a great job of cleaning them.

Good luck!

Yeah I just found that out. She was very well litter trained until the wheel. THanks for the baby wipes tip!

We have the wheel that you posted the link for. Louie loves it! It's easy to clean and has worked great for us!

Hmmm, I was leaning toward the bucket one until Dena showed me the other one at such a great price. I'm still trying to decide! I think the metal one might be easier to clean, but I'm wondering if the plastic one would be easier for him to run in?? Decisions, decisions!

Do your hedgies chew on the plastic JGawana and CCinAL?

Nope, Louie's never chewed on the plastic or any other part of it.

Whichever you choose I'm sure your hedgie will love it!

Ok, since all posts have been erased from 7 days ago.......I got my wheel, put it in his cage and he was terrified of it. Now he's sleeping next to it but won't get in it.

How long until your hedgies actually used the wheel?

It was about a week before I saw evidence (poops!!) that Louie was using his wheel.

I'm sure he'll use it soon!

Ok, he's had the wheel for a few weeks and still hasn't used it! I've even shoved his little butt in there and he sniffs it and waddles out.
