Hello Out There!!!
*echo* *echo*
So Wendy, how is Rosie doing? My girls are settling in for the nice long winter. Karmen is getting fat and her fur is getting thicker. Kasey isn't putting on her winter fat yet. What's funny is Karmen will get fat and Kasey will thin down a bit, then Karmen will lose a bit of weight and Kasey will get chubby.
I never seem to have time to get out the camera and try to get some good pics. I'm so busy snuggling with them that I forget all about it.

Rosie is a tiny tot... she seems to be shrinking rather than expanding but she appears to be well and eats well although I did change her hay a couple of months ago and feel she doesn't appreciate this. She was on Oxbow Timothy hay, which is rather expensive here so, I changed to another hay which was recommeded but I don't like it. LOL I'll be odering Oxbow again, do that today in fact, throw the other lot out which seems to get used for nesting quite a bit rather than eaten!
I found a supplier on the net (UK) who builds cages and hoping he'll build one for Rosie from scratch... going to be so expensive but she needs a new cage so if I have to go without porridge in my belly and shoes on my feet, so be it.
She's still in bed tight now and it's about 9.15am... she having bunny basics T and a few horse rolled oats for her beakfast, not that she's very excited about this otherwise she'd up and about right now.
She's still a little love of course and loves my kises and cuddles and still speaks to me with a twinkle in here eye but as soon as her feet touch the floor outside of her cage WOW... she turns into the Tazmanian devil LOL what a little bugger, it's like I have two of them... Jekyl and Hyde!
I love her to bits though and wouldn't change her for all the tea in China!

Ok... update on the hay! Received my delivery of Oxbow hay this afternoon and give Rosie some, and I can tell the difference straight away... (so can she) *nodding* she's one happy bunny, well, not a bunny of course! Rosie's munching away as I type away, and this makes us both content - what we do for our luvluvs!

I love the smell of Oxbow hay. It smells so fresh and sweet that I've been tempted to eat some.
Kasey has lost quite a bit of weight. Normally she'll look like she's losing weight, then you can tell she's gaining it right back. This time I don't see her gaining it back. I'm started to get a bit nervous!

Houston has always been thinner than Dallas & Peanut. He turns into a little muscle man. I took him to the vet, and his back teeth are growing in funny. As long as he eats tons of hay they grind back down. The vet said his weight is actually better than Dallas & Peanut. Just keep an eye on him. Dallas and Peanut are perpetual pear shapes. Always fatten up in the winter, and slim down in the spring. That's normal - especially with them living in the Northeast. They are back to building huge nests and sleeping a lot more.

My girl Precious has always been a little chunck! Lately as well, she has been loseing weight, but she's eating like she always does. Everytime I take her to the Vet., she yells at me because Precious is slightly overweight, and my other naughty girl Peanut is always very slim. So now that Precious is slightly slimmer, she's also more active, which is such a good thing since she is a VERY lazy p-dog.

Dallas, thanks for the reassurance! I was (still am) concerned because she's thinner than normal. She still eats, drinks, plays and yahoo's like normal.

As long as she's eating good, she should be fine. I was worried because compared to Dallas & Peanut - Houston was downright skinny. He goes through weighs gains and losses. But I just feed them Bunny Basics T, Prairie Delight once a week, tons of hay, 2 shredded wheat a day, and maybe once a month a parrot Biscuit. They get a carrot, green bean or sweet potato treat maybe once a week.

I tried that Prairie Delight and they snubbed their noses at it. Hmmm, I didn't know that they might like green beans. I'll have to try that. I think they use most of their hay to build nests. Their last one was quite the little mansion. I almost felt bad when I had to clean out their cage. They were a little miffed, but they got over it.
Karmen will lose a little, then gain it back, but Kasey was getting downright skinny! I am happy to report that she's plumping back up again.
Oh Catherine!!!! How are your pd's doing???

That's great! They will go through weight gains and losses. If you get worried, get their teeth checked. Dr Pieper uses an ear scope to check them. He's awesome. And he laughed when I told him my thoughts, cause I was right. Try a variety of hays - in the wild the hay grows at different times. I mix off with timothy, orchard grass, and oat hay.
The nests are awesome aren't they? If I open the bottom door, I get a flood of hay and cardboard. Do they clean their own cage? Mine are due for it. Open the door and Dallas will kick everything out on the floor. So I have a HUGE pile to clean up. But it's so much fun to watch!
