Is it possible to mate prairie dogs?

Hi!


I have a male Black-tailed prairie dog, I think he's year and a half at the moment.

If I buy a female PD, whether they mate? Or is it possible, that two prairie dogs are going to hate instead of loving each other?

Does anybody have experience with mating prairie dogs?

I have heard numerous times that it is EXTREMELY rare for them to breed in captivity. From articles I have read, females are only fertile a few hours out of the year, so I am not sure if that is the reason why it is so difficult, but I am sure it adds to it!
