For everyone and anyone who likes
prairie dogs, both in their wild state in
prairie dog "towns", or as great pets, the information about what is happening in Lubbock, Texas should be of interest.
In short: Land owned by the city as a waste water application site fell into controversy because the PDs there were blamed for water contamination. Many citizens freaked out when the city announced plans to destroy them all with poison or in-tunnel explosions. Many felt the ignorance in managing the situation was beyond ridiculous. There has been a public outcry and a relocation project has been started. It now appears that the PDs aren't so much to blame, and that the waste water will now be simply dumped into a nearby stream. I invite anyone interested to check out
http://www.prairiedog.us , a Web Site devoted to safely relocating these PDs.
In a city smack-dab in the middle of the historic "Llano Estacado" region of the U.S., and of such fame as Buddy Holly, Mac Davis, and Bobby Knight, we hope that things will be turned around!
Thanks.
