Dallas, can I ask where you got your prairie dogs for such a good price? I have not found a hand raised one for under $300 anywhere.

The Trio
Sure! I drove to North Carolina from New York, and got true Lynda Watson pups from Betsy Callis. We planned on two, fell in love with three. Our cage is also from Betsy. A long stressful trip - down and back in 2 1/2 days - but worth it every time they smile!

Do you know if these pups were breed and raised by an individual, or caught in the wild?

The Trio are wild humane caught by Lynda Watson in Lubbock. Lynda is the true guru of Prairie Dogs. She's an awesome person and I love talking to her.
Captive bred? I only know of one person who had captive pups this year - can I ask you where you are? $80.00 sounds like a vacuum pup price.
You're welcome to e-mail me - since I don't want to start any hassles here.

I got mine from www.animalsexotique.com they have been wonderful to work with! Cliff the new owner is the nicest man to do business with, and very good hearted and honest. He now has spring pups available. I think they are $139 + $120 for shipping.

just asking to keep up the discussion...
Dallas, can you tell us the differences between humane caught and vacuum caught PDs?
And maybe how we would go about finding someone who catches them humanely?

Well I am not for sure how mine are caught. I think in baited cages. All I know is that they are USDA approved, and I have super sweet PD's!

OK - Humane Capture versus Vacuum - Vacuum is a suped up vacuum cleaner hose, hooked up to a septic cleaning truck that is padded with one inch of foam. Everything and everybody in the den is sucked up through the hose at a speed of approximately 180 miles per hour, hit the side of the truck, and land on the floor. So along with flying pds are dust, dirt, rocks and all types of pds. Many pds are injured or lose limbs during this.
The people running the machines don't care, because the injured pds, and older unsaleable for pet pds are just sold to labs.
Humane capture is done several ways. The most popular is to pump foam bubbles into the den, and the pups will run up and out into the capturers hands. Another choice is trickling water down into the den slowly and the pups run out to investigate. The pups are then scooped up, toweled off and put into clean cages full of hay, and fed.
Lynda's pups are then taken to her house, flea dipped and fed. After dipping, they are taken to Jim Gleason for a vet check up. They are dipped again, and handled and fed by senior citizens that Lynda hires to work with the pups.
After that they are shipped to certain exotic dealers. Lynda's pups come with a certificate of humane capture. She is an awesome person, and I really enjoy talking with her!
Hope that helps!

Thanks Dallas, I was wondering what the difference was. Karmen and Kasey came from one of Lynda Watson's dealers in Ohio, I have the certificate and also got the book "Bringing A Prairie Dog Pup Into Your Home" when I got my girls....it was included in the price. I would definitely recommend Lynda's pups. It is obvious how much time is spent with each pup, almost all of them came running to my hand when I put it in the cage (the only ones that didn't were sleeping LOL). It was hard to choose between all of the pups that were trying to choose me. :hershey:

Did you get your pups from Karen? Mine are from Betsy. The book is awesome isn't it? Even my vet loved it!
