Question

A couple bunny questions

What is the best way to introduce bunnies, and whats the earliest age to get them fixed? Ive heard that if you dont fix males, then they will spray.

also, does any one have experience housing bunnies and guinea pigs together?

Thanks

ok how old are your bunnies and what sexes are they? Two males will never house together so don't even try. Even two brothers will fight and they weill kill each other. They can't be spayed/neutered until they are 6 months old but as close to that age is recommended. I have two females at the moment they are both getting fixed in January. I'm currently trying to bond my two girls (up until a couple of weeks ago Shadow had a male as her companion and it was a severe case of two's company, three's a crowd). Introduce them in a neutral territory, like the bath, where none of them have been before. This stops one attacking cause it is in it's territory. As soon as they go for each other (which unless they are quite young they will) seperate them. I have just put wire down the middle of Molly's cage (it is bigger than Shadow's) and have them next to each other. The first day they just stared at each other and there was some serious thumping going on but after day two they seem quite interested in one another but aren't ready for the wire to disappear yet. If you have any more questions let me know.
DO NOT PUT TWO MALES TOGETHER......even neutered they will fight!

I don't have rabbits, but I do have guinea pigs. I understand you should not house them together.

Rabbits are quite lovely once they've been neutered! Mine, I have 3, are all quite happy frolicking together. I have one neutered male and 2 females one of which is spayed. My spayed female is way more friendly then my unspayed one. They have always gotten along, but I have my female spayed before the girls were introduced for the first time. Otherwise I hear that they are territorial also. Ruth was showing signs of being territorial way before she met Pinkie. But once I had Pinkie spayed Ruth must not have seen her as a threat and she has never had any issues with either. Snowball thinks he's in love with Ruth but he can't DO anything so he and Ruth are content snuggling on the floor together. He likes snuggling with Pinkie too! He is quite the ladies bunny!
Boys do spray if they have females around. That is what spurred on his neutering. I did have a male that was an only bunny and he never did spray, so I have to attribute it to the girls making him all randy.

I also heard the same as masterjack, that bunnies & guinea pigs shouldn't be housed together. But I don't have a bunny either, so just passing what I've read & heard.

Yes masterjack and pigsterz that's right....you should not house rabbits and guinea pigs together. Unless you have netherland dwarf rabbits and large guinea pigs I wouldn't risk it. They won't fight (to my knowledge) but if the rabbit kicks it's back legs and hits the guinea pig it can be fatal. In Australia people are always housing rabbits and guinea pigs together....even in pet shops (which are a lot better than most of the ones you guys talk about) the house them together. It's only because they are naive to the damage that can be done....many Australians do house them together with not troubles...it's up to you if you want to take the tisk but if you own larger breed rabbits I definently wouldn't.
