Good luck finding a wonderful rabbit.

It depends on the area where you keep your rabbits. I had rabbits for years and never had any problems with fleas or other parasites. All that changed when my neighbor let part of his yard grow wild. That brought in cottontails, mice and birds, and that is when the problems started.

How frustrating! I can reach the site for Brambley Hedge Rabbit Rescue. Are Ivy and Jasmine the rabbits you are thinking about adopting? I got their names from the link address that isn't working, but I can find them on the second link.

UPDATE: Sooo........ANOTHER strange turn of events!
A family emailed me today and asked if I wanted their rabbit because they heard I was looking. I dont know how they did though...very odd. O_O;;
the women I spoke to went on about how well behaved the rabbit is and how much it loves her kids and so on and so forth.
She went on to ask $25 for it. $20 for the cage and the rabbit and $5 for dropping it off.

After listening to her I tried to explain that right now is not a good time and that I had just made a commitment to a new rat and he is undergoing expensive meds not to mention the huge cage I had just bought for him.

In some weird response she sent me a picture of him.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2...oset/ss001.jpg

She also went on like this: HES SO EASY TO TAKE CARE OF PLEASE!
All he needs are some pellet from the grocery store. If you run out you can just give him hay. He can eat just hay. You dont always need pellets.
If he gets noisy you can stick him on the porch with blanket over his cage so he doesn't overheat. YOU LIVE 15 MILES FROM ME. IT WAS 120F TODAY.

I broke down. I really did. Because this is just sick. This is just torture.
So I told yes Id take your dammed bunny. Bring him over on Monday.
Ill buy him a big cage and oxbow and give him everything. YOU STUPID JACK OFF. ;-;
(I wish I said that last line, I do...)

After I turned my computer of it occurred to me that I need to get him neutered and checked out by a vet.
I also occurred to me that holy tatter tots I just spent a butt load on my rats cage. Then my aunt called.

"Ill pay you 25 for everyday my family is gone to watch to pets. I think were going to be about 16-20 days."

DO THE MATH. Im did it. And im babysitting the crap outta those pets for this guy.

CAGES. NEED IT. FAST. D:
Link me to cages! Nice big and expensive ones!

Congratulation on your new little boy. I wish the circumstances were better. I think I would have told her that because he is not neutered, I would take him in, but I would only pay her for her gas to deliver him. I took in rabbits before because I felt bad for them, and one had a broken back and I later had to euthanize him. Now the same woman is moving and wants me to take in her 2 guinea pigs and 2 turtles. Some people just should never get pets! I feel sorry for her animals, but I am not running a shelter.

I hope you enjoy your new rabbit. I think saving him from that family was the right thing to do.

OMG the poor baby! Its so wonderful that you took him... He looked so sad and pathetic in that picture.
I have an idea to save you some money on cages... Have you ever heard of a NIC cage? You can acually make some really nice cages out of those shelving cubes that you can get at Target for $14.99. Cabel tie the cubes together, and put some flooring under it (or a coroplast bottom) and tada- You have a cheap cage that is bigger than the most expensive one at the petstore! You can acually make some pretty massive cages out of these.

EDIT: Heres what Im talking about- http://www.guineapigcages.com/cubes.htm

The last time I bought these grids from Target, called "Organize-it", they changed the product. If you look at the storage unit, all the grids that go on the back of the unit have only half the wire, so the holes are much larger on those grids than on the outer grids. I would be concerned that an animal might get his head stuck in those grids. You might have to put extra wire over the top of them.

Yeah, I heard that, moonchild. The Target ones are different now. I'd avoid Target ones--actually, maybe it'd be best to look around online for some.

Hmmm... The grids I got are all the same size! But I got mine a few years ago, and Ive heard theyve changed. Are there other brands you can buy that dont do that? You also can check thrift stores and garage sale for the older kind. There are tons of them around here.

I actually got a box recently...

Some of the grids are the same as the old ones, and some have bigger spaces. At least that's how the ones I got where. If you can't find them anywhere else, you could get two or three boxes at target and only use the grids with the smaller spaces, or use the one's with the larger spaces for the floor of the cage (since most people cover the floor grids anyways). Even paying to get a couple of boxes of them and not using the ones with the bigger grids would be cheaper than a similar sized cage, I think.

Also, check ebay. There are people on there selling the older style of grids that list them for the purpose of building rabbit cages. Some people even sell kits, where you can get all the grids, zip ties, cholorplast, and directions to make a certain style NIC cage. It would be cheaper just to get the stuff yourself, but if you can't find the grids or something it's an idea.

Another idea is to use a XPen - I used one for awhile when I just had Barnaby and it worked out well. I also know some people use large wire dog crates with plastic bottoms and then costomize them by adding shelves and stuff.

The bunny is cute - congrats! Is he a holland lop?
