I have a silly question...

OK, I really don't know much at all about rabbits, so this question may be a bit silly...

I was at the local animal shelter with a friend the other day to look for one of her cats who got out. (We found him in her neighbor's yard the next day, so no worries there.) There was a rabbit in the front room who had what looked like a large flap of extra skin just under his chin. It looked a little odd to me so I was wondering, is this normal? What could be the cause if it isn't?

It's normal. I think it's when they get older and it's only some breeds, one of my bunnies, Mr. Shakes, has a little one when he sits a certain way

What breeds have them and what breeds don't? Tabby is a lop ear and I think she would have a bit of one if she had some weight on her bones!

What is a dewlap for, anyway? My last female bun got one when she was older. I used to think they were for pulling fur out to line a nest with, but if that was the case, you'd think it would happen right away, when they entered the reproducing age.

Does anyone know?

My Daisy has had a bit of one ever since we got her (aprox 8 months ago).... I wonder if that trait is breed specific as well?

Come to think of it... Charlie is starting to have one as he's getting older. He's a little on the "stout" side, but he's not really over weight though.
