I agree though that your hutches should be bigger and have solid floors though
QUOTE]

I think the cages are an alright size if there is an exercise area the rabbits can use. Those cages appear to be about the same size as cages I have seen in pet stores for pet rabbits. My experience with rabbits is that some rabbits do fine on wire bottom cages and others don't. EZ-Mats can be purchased on the web at places like :www.rabway.com They are plastic mats that are easy to clean and go over the top of the wire, but allow the feces to drop through. They cost less than $3 each and work great.

Pet stores are renowned for their substandard animal care -- I think most people here would be insulted if you told them that their cages were "as big as what the pet stores keep their stock in!"

What size cage does your organization recommend?

Post something about chickens with pictures and say they are for meat. I would write the exact same thing that I did about these bunnies!

Oh no, look at the size of those cages thats horrible.
At least if your going to eventually slaughter these rabbits, give them a better home than what they are living in right now. Them cages are even worse than petshops!
Also what is the point of bringing the dog, rat and other animal forums into this thread? this is a bun thread and we are replying to her post. Did she mention on this "Not to judge me on what i do, and how i house my buns" no she didnt so i am very sorry, but i cannot keep inside of what i think about the way these animals are housed. Rabbits are an ANIMAL a PET just like every other pet they should have the right to be treated atleast some what humanely.

I didn't realize this would make such a big 'crash!'

I post in the rodent forum already as a feeder-breeder, so I figured that this wouldn't be too bad. The only reason I referenced meat breeding is because yes, these are my breeding stock and I didn't want people to wonder why I was breeding often.

And yes, I'm already a part of homesteadingtoday.com. One of my favorite forums - been a part for many, many years now, started out because of my Goats and then I caught the 'raise my own food' mentality. From now on, I'll just keep my rabbit posting to there.

I totally agree with jess- people would go ape if someone was like "I'm going to raise some guinea pigs and cut their throats and roast them." What makes a guinea pig different from a rabbit as far as their right to life goes? I also agree with jennicat as far as this being a pet forum goes.

I can see this topic causing problems, so I'm going to close it.
