New Rabbit Cage
Okay, It isn't finished, but the main outer parts are all welded together. They need to grind down the welds, attach some hardware on the top and bottoms of the doors, paint it with a non toxic paint so it doesn't rust, attach the shelves, install the carpet and ramps and add accessories and Lucky Jack. I thought it may be interesting to start a thread showing the progress and the sheer size of this monsterous bunny cage! When Shane and Chris took it to Chris' welding class, his classmates kept asking what it was, why it was so big, why did it have to be so massive for a rabbit, what kind of rabbit needed a cage so massive...etc. They gave up and told them it was a double dog kennel for the truck instead! LOL! It's plenty big enough for a couple of very large dogs! But no, it's the rabbit cage
Oh and for those of you confused as to why my car has Michigan plates as opposed to NC plates, well my MI plates don't expire until next month and I wasn't about to waste what I paid for my MI plates...(also I've been too lazy to go get them switched!) Yes, Stephanie, I STILL have the MI plates on there!

Now you know why his name is Lucky Jack! Hopefully we'll get it finished tomorrow...Shane took it with him to work tonight so Chris can work on painting it and attaching the latches while Shane's tattooing! Hopefully by the time he gets home, all we will have to do is add the shelves, carpeting and accessories! Whoo Hoo! It's almost done!

We're still working on it, but got it painted and the latches attached...Shane's working on figuring out how to attach the shelves and ramps, but it should get finished either tonight or tomorrow. This is a pic of it right now all painted with the latches on. It's sitting on the carpet that will be used to cover the shelves, so you'll have an idea what kind of carpet it is and what it looks like. Anyway, the cage building continues!

This one is a little more time consuming than most since almost all of it is welded together...Shane actually took it to his friend's welding class at the local technical college and had his friend weld it. (he got class credit for doing it, so it was a win win situation) The latches were attached by drilling holes into the steel angle bars and riviting them on...took a lot of manual labor, but it works great! We know how we are going to attach the shelves...(angle bars bolted to the sides of the cage that the shelves will rest in, but that's going to take a bit of time and energy as well. Shane's hoping that since it's Monday, it'll be slower at work and he can get out early to work on it Did I mention I love my Hunny?

It's great Mandie!!! I must say though I'm jealous!!! Alex has been building shadow's cage for almost a year now....still working on the frame!!!! Can we all say slow? I'm guessing he'll get it made pretty quick soon though cause she'll have to live in the laundry or bathroom when we move until he has made it!

wow...that cage looks great and he looks so happy! Thanks for posting the pics. I love to see what others people's pets, cages, etc. look like! I need to get a camera that I can post the pics online with! I love the cage though and you're lucky to have Shane with the welding skills. That's great!
