Price of spaying/neutering rabbits

Does anyone know the actual price of spaying rabbits? I want to get Bun-Bun spayed soon, and my vet I take my dogs and cats to, only sees dogs and cats. The other vet I have gone to, said the price would be atleast $250 +35 for the inital exam. I called another place highly recommended to me, and they said it would be about $375 + 55 exam! That's over $400!? Is that right? I mean if it is, someone tell me. I really don't know? I want to take her to a very experienced rabbit vet, but I didn't know it would be so steep in prices?? I'm going to call my other vet down in West Palm and get his going rate. Could I go to the humane society?

Carmen, I know you just got your girls done, do you know what it would be converted into American $$?
Thanks guys!

I think my vet charges around 200 + $80 exam for neuter, $300 - $350 + exam for spay. It sounds like a good price to me.

Holy Cow! I paid 120.00 for Pinkie to get spayed and 70.00 for Snowball to be neutered. Yikes they bite you guys pretty hard out east eh? That is a great way to discourage neutering animals, by making it unaffordable. That is terrible. I would definately call around to see what the price averages to and decide if your vet is charging too much or not.

Mine was very reasonable in my town, about average for these parts, and that Dr. Mike specializes in exotics made me comfortable with my choice of him doing the procedures. I guess I am very lucky here in Wisconsin.

Try calling rescues or shelter that take in rabbits and see where they recommend. Some of those prices do seem a little steep. My vets charged me $185 for a cat spay and I believe it to be the same for rabbits. They are experienced in all types of animal and I know that they consider price by weight not so much by species. The $185 included my office visit and removal of sutures 8 days later. They may have really good prices for spays/neuters because they charge me an arm and a leg for everything else. An office visit because my Varuca had a cold $100 - my Varuca well PRICELESS!!! Sorry just had to throw that in.

wow! Little Sephy Wephy only cost $80 to get neutered. the spay I'm unsure of. Probably more. Although, who knows what to expect in Hicksville aka Montana.

Thanks everyone!!! Maybe it does vary where you live? Well, I called my vet down in West Palm yesterday and his price seems more reasonable, around the $166 area.

Thanks Dena, I will be checking that out as well! This might sound silly, how can I find places that do rabbit rescues? Can I do a web search in my area and find it that way? Or does anyone have any links?

Jackie, I can give you the name of 2 good vets in WPB. The vet my mom uses was wonderful when I brought Remy in for an exam and shots and compared to the prices here in NJ I thought they were very reasonable!

The other is the vet the breeder I got the Remster from uses, and he had nothing but great things to say about him.

I chatted with my vet the last time I saw him about the cost differences depending on the part of the country or even town you live in. Fee schedules do vary.
Your animal is *priceless* and you want to put them in the very best most experienced hands - exploring your options is a good thing. I've checked around and changed vets a few times - it took me a long time to find the vet I use now. There is a thriving vet practice in my town that charges outrageous fees I used to use them and I always felt rushed or left with a question I didn't have time to ask.
I think my vet is more compassionate, caring, takes more time to get to know you and your animals, he's thoughtful and explains everything and answers any question you have, in detail... and he charges less His office isn't as fancy but it's immaculate, I don't need a fancy office, I need a good vet!
