Christi you might also want to look into the Himilayan, they are supposed to be a good breed for young children due to their calm, relaxed disposition. Unfortunately some people are put off by the red eyes.

Thanks Catherine! I found some local breeders but I'm going to the shelters today. I got to thinking about what one of you said, that if I get an older one I'll know their disposition... not to mention I feel bad buying a baby when I could rescue.
