Ouch! Did you see her step on that poor little baby and that little baby didn't even seem to mind!? Thanks for the video. I had bunnies when I grew up, but never got to see them nurse!

The little brown one was making me laugh! Her little feet were so cute.
How can you stand all that cuteness? I would walk around all day with at least one baby bunny!!

Weaning
Hi,
How can u tell she is weaning them??
Yesterday a funny thing happened which I cannot explain.
THe four black buns got in the cage by evening.Wilma rrived to give them a feed. The litle brown one was left playing abt outside the cage.
Later, when I returned WIlma to the cage for nighttime, the bun ran upto her to feed. She shooed all of them off EXCEPT the little brown one, whom she let feed?? How did sshe know he had missed the feed??
Someone explain pls.

Bunnies are smart!
You know people always thought that carnavores, animals that have to hunt for food in the wild, were so much smarter then other animals because they need to think about how to get their food. That's why people always thought that things like dogs and cats were smarter then say, rabbits and g.pigs. Because rabbits don't have to think about where they're getting their next meal, they just have to know to run away if something tries to attack them.
But they are doing all kind of scientific studies that are showing that a lot of animals are a lot smarter then people think. Crickets, for example, in one study (not published yet) have shown that they have the ability to make decisions based on their prevous mistakes. And people are just starting to relize how intelligent things like squid and octopus are.
I think animals are much smarter then most people give them credit for.
Of course it could have just been coincedence too - but I like to think that it was just because she's smart, and she knew that the baby didn't get fed before.

How old are they now?
Usually it's safe to seperate them from mom when they are 8 weeks old. They may still try to steal a drink from mom once in awhile but they should also be eating normal food, and at this age their gut bacteria is developed enough that they no longer need milk from mom.
I think breeders take them from the mother even earlier, around 6 weeks.
So I would give them 6-8 weeks and see if they wean themselves - if they stop drinking moms milk. If, by 8 weeks old they still try to get milk, I would say seperate them as long as they are eating solids as well, which they definatly should be doing by 8 weeks.
I think the best thing to do is seperate the males and females, keep all the males together and all the females together - because they are use to having lots of other bunnies around and if you suddenly but them in cages by themselves it might stress them out. Let them get use to being without mom first then seperate them from each other (if you want too)
