Something is wrong with Stash...
Today I woke up to find Stash lying in his litterbox looking miserable. He hadn't gone to the bathroom at all and when I put in fresh hay he didn't seem interested (which is unusual for him). I offered him a banana chip but he wouldn't take it. I finally got him to eat some carrot greens...but nothing else. And he only ate a little bit and then refused the rest.
I hadn't seen him drink but it's possible he drank a little when I was asleep or out of the room.
He eventually came out of the cage but didn't want to come out of his cardboard house.
Our regular vet was closed so we took him to the emergency vet. They checked him over and couldn't really find anything wrong. Because he hadn't really been drinking they gave him some fluids. She thought maybe it's a tooth problem...his front teeth are fine but since you can't see the back teeth maybe something's wrong there. Later this week he'll probably have his teeth checked and filed down if needed. He has to be anesthetized for it which makes me nervous . If that's not the problem then she told us to bring him back for blood tests.
The fluids really made him feel better and now he's more active and eating normally.
My question is...do you think it could be anything else? Has anyone dealt with this before? Is there any way to know for sure that it's a tooth problem before anesthetizing him? I'd hate to have it done and it turns out there's nothing wrong. Is it possible that maybe he just wasn't feeling that great today?
Please keep him in your thoughts .

How did his stomach sound and feel?
When i have a bunny with gas they will stop eating/pooping and look pretty unhappy. Once i get them to eat and drink they usually feel better.

i'm sorry to hear about Stash not feeling well! hopefully it is nothing serious. my bunny Thimble has had teeth problems in the past with her back molars, and she acted a lot like you are describing Stash. She wouldn't eat anything accept nibble on a little hay and would just sit in the corner looking miserable. she would rock back and forth in pain and it was so terrible! She wasn't going to the bathroom because she couldnt eat, and she was hungry but couldnt eat because it hurt her! Well we rushed her to the emergency vet, and the vet put some weird tool thing in her mouth and looked to see if there were any jagged edges on the back teeth. The molars were all jagged back there, so they were filed down and she was given fluids. She slowly beagn to eat after that, and once her mouth healed where the jagged edeges had dug in < > she was fine. She has never had any more teeth problems since then.
hopefully Stash has something easliy fixable like this. will Stash not allow the vet to pry his mouth open long enough to see his back teeth? because then you would know before anesthetizing him.

hmm... well if Stash is eating now maybe it was just a stomach ache or something of that sort? Maybe teh fluids were teh little push his system needed and he'll be better now hopefully. When Thimble had the jagged molars she just couldnt eat at all. Unless Stash's teeth aren't that bad yet but are just a little jagged and causing only minor discomfort? i would try your regular vet if he stops eating again, and that way hopefully they will be able to get a good look at Stash's back teeth with the help of a vet assistant or someone who can hold Stash while the vet looks back there. Thimble was a real jumpy little thing about letting the vet see back there, but after a couple tries she submitted and let the dr. have a good look.
hope all goes well with Stash
