What do you line your bunny cages with? - Paw Talk

I usually use a short-fibered rug or piece of carpet, and linolium flooring. Since Smudge had his surgery, Ive just been using a towel and thats working OK, but its a little harder to clean (unless you take the towel out and wash it). So what does everyone else use? I need some more ideas, because Smudge has a habbit of spilling his water everywhere (Im going to use a heavier bowl too) , and that linolium is getting kind of nasty!

Do you know those stick on tiles at Lowe's (sp?) and hardware stores?

We tested them pretty extensively. Our four boxers are monstrous slobs.
We place these tiles directly over ours and left them there where the dogs play and eat. Its been about 8 months and the tiles are still in great condition and haven't moved. After four dogs scratching at them, trying to remove them, eating wet food on them and SOAKING them with water bowls plus several incidents of bringing in houses to the house (BAD DOG)

What you could do so you dont have to attach them to cages is attach them to chloroplast or thin wood.

Or you just use chloroplast~

Cheap and water proof. Can also be cut to fit custom fits.

I have a personal belief that open water bowls with small pets is asking trouble. But some bunnies dont like bottles I hear! Is yours like this?

I have to use a bowl and bottles for my rabbits. Barnaby and Ziggy only like to drink from a bowl, and Berry only likes to use the water bottle

A lot of people use bowls for rabbits though. You should try to find one he can't tip.

Is your cage bottom plastic? You don't really need to use anything on the bottom if it is (and he's litter box trained). You could just leave the bottom bare and give him some kind of bed to relax on. You could use a small dog bed or a piece of fleece or if he chews on those things maybe a grass mat or box or something.

I don't use anything on the first floor of my bunnies cage. It's plastic, so when they spill water or miss the litter box I just whipe up the plastic.

I don't use anything to line my cages. If Smudge is getting water everywhere, just get a deeper, heavier bowl that he can't tip

Bokuza- Smudge will drink out of either, but I only have one leak-free bottle, and that one is used for my guinea pigs. Personally, I like bowls better for my small animals as long as they dont fling stuff into their water.

And I had nothing on the bottom for a while, but the bottom of my cage has these weired raised areas that makes it hard to clean, and Smudge slips on the plastic when he jumps.
The rabbit that Im bunny sitting is using my super heavy bowl, so Smudge will get it after shes picked up tonight.

Oh hey, about cages, what cage do you have Jess?
Any recommendations?

A strange turn of events happened and guess now Ill be bringing a little bunny boy home with me. HIS CAGE IS TERRIBLE. The owners dont know crap about rabbit.

Thats my cage... Its 2 feet wide and a lil over 3 feet long.But i took out the bottom shelf, and I put his toys and stuff in it

I got it off Craigslist for $40, so I couldnt tell you where to get it. Sorry!
But i gave you a suggestion for a cheap and large cage on you thread, so hopefully that helps! If it doesnt, Ive gotten some really nice cages off Craigslist. Good luck!

Most arizona craigslist cages are metal. Like the ones that really mean breeders make. D: Thanks for the help tho!

aw jess thats a cute cage! And I didn't know you were bunny sitting! How does he like the levels? And does he ever toss the blanket things off of them?

Bokuza- Ive never noticed a brand on it, but when I clean it out tomarrow, I will look for one and let you know! The brand Ferplast has some really nice cages too- I have one of their rabbit cages for my guinea pigs, and I love it :] They have a really nice design, and the floor has a grid pattern on it so your bunny wont slip.

Marmalade- The bun I was watching went home last night... She was such a cutie! i should post pics LOL
And Smudge LOVES levels! And the blankets... Well, you know how you make tie blankets? I made those, but I made it so that the shelf part is in the middle of the 2 blankets, and then I tied the knot things, so the blankets acually cant come off unless you undo the knots. I had to be creative, LOL!

Water bowls for rabbits work really well because they're typically kept in cages with no bedding since they're litterbox trained. Overall, I've noticed that most rabbits tend to prefer bowls to bottles -- not sure why. I always used one of those giant ceramic bowls they put dog water in, and never had much issue with them spilling it; the exception was when Bob got mad at me for washing him and dumped all his toys into the water bowl, flooding his cage.

My new lop gets his ears in his water bowl, so I have to give him a very small bowl. I am thinking of getting him a crock like this one that I can clamp on the cage to keep it off of the ground. This picture came from Drs Foster and Smith website.
