Foam...Foam...Foam

As something to take up my time I made this....

I had a 10 gallon tank that leaks laying around and time so what else should one do?? Make a foam background of course!!!

This is my first time so it didn't quiet turn out how I wanted it to but I can fix it up once it cures.

The foam is 'Great Stuff" and it comes out of a can and expands,I had way more than I needed to I used the rest up on making 2 small hides (no pictures)

I don't like how it looks from the side so tomorrow I was 'carve' it and make is pretty. I will also be coating it in black silicon and coco fiber.

There is 2 pots which I will be planting pothos in and a coconut half which acts as bit of a ledge.

Yes I know my foot looks deformed in the picture.

You have one big butt of a cage. I think you would die of fumes before you even got though a couple cans. In less you made it in small pieces outside.

This is my stupidity of foaming out side of the tank

Cool

I actually did that to make all the hides and part of the background in Haku's cage. It took me awhile to get it how I wanted it but I loove the way his tank looks now, and he's much more active with all the diffrent hides and stuff to climb on.

On a side note - be careful not to get that great foam on your skin, or if you do wash it off before it dries. My brother put it all over my hands while I was sleeping once and it took weeks before all of it wore off.

I'd love to see more pictures when your tank is finished!

That is snazzy..I would have thought that stuff is poison.Seriously, nice though. So wait, you put the pots and foam and stuff on the wall of the tank? It sticks there in the foam I would imagine, and the lizard crawls into it??

** Don't mind me, I'm a total dork and have no idea on vivariums and whatnots**

Once everything cures it is perfectly safe.

Everything is stuck right to the tank the only way to get it off now is to scrape it off.

I just finished putting the coco fiber on it yesterday so I will post pictures later.

the great stuff has to be treated. You can do cool things by carving it and painting it or sticking stuff in it, but the paint has to be sealed, making sure it is safe for reptiles.

You can do similar things with styrafoam that you carve, and put grout over it. That you can imbed sands or pebbles, moss, and other things to make a natural look along with painting.

For sticks many people use PVC pipe that they burn with a torch to give texture and then paint it looks very natural once its done.

Remember always use great stuff and sealers in very well ventilated areas and take breaks often.
