Birds that don't make much noise

Are there any birds that don't shriek or make loud noises? Maybe just whistle now and then, etc?

The closest thing I can think of to a (fairly) quiet house pet bird would be a finch. They "beep" all the time, but it isn't loud and is actually kind of cute.

My Eclectus parrot knows how to whisper, but only does it if I'm in bed. The Gray is just learning to talk and wants everybody to know she's trying!

My daughter had some finches for a while and they were actually pretty good little pets. She even hand-fed one, although everyone we talked to told us that it was impossible to do that.

Good luck - let us know what you find!

I'm looking into finches, and possibly parakeets.

A parakeet is a wonderful choice. They can be noisy but their decibel level is much lower than other birds. You may also want to consider a Parrotlet. Very cute! There are different types and colors and of course the more rare the color the more expensive!

This is an excellent site to read about them and see wonderful pictures. Their breeding process/equipment is unbelievable! This is also the breeder that I got my little Diva from.

Dena - a parrotlet would be a great choice. Personality of an Amazon without the size and noise! I've also talked to people who have taught theirs to say a few words. I looked long and hard at them for a while before I slapped my hand and said "No more!"

Hi - I have just joined this board and I could add another quiet bird to the list - Diamond Doves. They are parakeet-sized doves from Australia and are quite commonly seen. The most noise I have heard is a very quiet cooing.

I look forward to talking with you all

Good luck
