Captain Jack has "something" to say
In the morning I get a cup of coffee (two sugars and hazelnut creamer) and let Captain Jack (young cockatiel) out of his cage to sit with me (mid thirites human). The activity is a bit of a habit (addiction) and now one my bird shares with me but he brings his own special twist to it.
I eventually learned to bring two coffee cups, one with my coffee and away from Captain Jack, and one for Captain Jack with a paper towel stuck in it. I used to have my coffee by my keyboard but after he fell into my coffee mug one morning the cup is now out of his path of travel and he has a cup placed that is acceptable and safe for him to sit on (the paper towel in it is to catch poops). Now I have a cockatiel on a coffee mug sitting next to my keyboard when I am typing. Why would I use my hands to type? when I could be using them to rub his head? He bends himself over and headbutts my left hand and kisses at my fingers with his mouth, and "talks" to me. Every few minutes he will hop off his cup and right onto my hand, he is so persistent.
He really is such a doll, and this little jabbering he does at me or to me is very endearing but it just goes on and on and on and on. What in the world is he trying to tell me? and no, he can't have real coffee like me, he gets his paper towel!
My fear is this is all about attention and he is becoming an attention monster, so far I can handle him but the jumping onto my hand and dancing on my keyboard...I am sure that isn't going to be cute forever. I just pick him up and set him back on his cup or on his perch which is right next to my chair...I mean we are almost always in pretty close proximity to one another...what more does he want??? *laughing*
What kinds of things could I do with him to stimulate him, maybe just being close to one another isn't enough.
Maybe today is a good day to switch his toys around too.
Right now he has climbed up my arm, is sitting on my shoulder, messing with my earring and jabbering and squaking right into my ear.
WHY??? It really seems he is trying to tell me something.

 Cute story
Captain Jack loves you! He's treating you like one of the flock... and letting you know that you are not to leave him (not even for 2 seconds) and you have to share everything (keyboard included) with him!!

Ya gotta love those tiels...I have one that does pretty much the same thing...If I don't want him "ON" me I better not even get to close to the cage or he jumps for me...I was just cleaning the other day and had been sweeping and bent down to sweep it into the dustpan and came up with a Casper on my back...LOL He just loves to be with his Mommy. But me i am a sucker and let him do it.I can't help it...one little kiss and he knows he gets to stay with mommy....spoiled **** bird.

I know it's getting late here and maybe I'm missing something, but please tell me you are not letting your tiel drink coffee. So far I've seen three or four threads tonight where the effects of what I see can be deadly.

Hi Bird Lovers ,
Whew :-) I told you it was getting late :-) I kinda figured the bird wasnt getting coffee but I have run into it before.
Actually, some of the stuff I've seen would knock your socks off but thats a different story :-)
On this same subject though, I cant live without coffee. One of my toos often gets a mug of fresh squeezed orange juice (diluted with water) to have when i have my coffee. He loves to drink it out of a mug :-)
Have Fun,
Bill
