cocktail leg problem :(

Hi, Iam new to the group. I have a problem with my cocktail and was wondering if anyone had a similar problem like this. I had the bird for about 8 years now and love it. Today I woke up and noticed that the bird was only standing on one leg (right). I have no idea what happened, and it only started today this morning no clue if it went on since yesterday. I picked him up and examined his leg it looks like the left leg (the problem leg) has a little hump on top and is always cramped or spread wide apart. I can see that the other (right) leg has no hump on it and looks fine unlike the other one.

Could anyone help?

I always have problems with my legs after a couple of cocktails too..

Seriously, it's not uncommon for cockatiels to stand on one leg.

Sometimes they'll panic at night, maybe sprain a foot or a leg and then you'll notice they won't stand on it for a couple of days. This happens, it isn't all the common, but I've seen it a couple of times on my birds.

However, what you are describing (assuming your description is accurate) is something more than a sprain. If you are saying that your bird cannot stand on both legs, and that you can visually detect a difference in one leg from the other, I'd take him to a vet that works with birds. You could wait a couple of days and see if there is any change for the better, but that is up to you. If the bird is in any discomfort, I'd go sooner rather than later.

Bob

I took him to the vet at 2 in the mornin and she said she doesn't think its a sprain she things its a neurological problem because everytime she would put some food infront of him he would fall on his face . well she gave him a painkiller shot and I took him back home after that he passed away at about 4 in the mornin today

Thanks for your help
