its not like what they say will change my mind. The rehab places near me only raise dear and bears, not birds. He's lived this long with me, great eater, poops during food time, very timid. VERY LOUD when hungry. He's a fighter. his siblings were dead when my co-workers found him. That already shows he wants to live.

Excuse me if i took this wrong but, you think i am only nice because i want to be popular??? i'm being nice and giving LazyKitten the support they need to raise the little bird. And she started the thread in the first place because this is what she wanted, a little bit of help. And no, before you say it, im not getting defencive, im just standing up for someone who clearly is saveing a birds life. And i'm sure she is thinking about what is 'best for the bird' because she rescued it didn't she???

Chinchi you arn't being very fair on the person who started this thread infact you are being very rude to them and Georgia this is a forum to come and ask questions and find information not to be given abuse to so i do disagree with you if the baby has survived this long yeah maybe they know a thing or two im pretty sure they would'nt of tried to raise it if they didn't know anything about it so please stop being rude it is'nt very nice!

Georgia:
It's not you I have an issue with, it's the person who started the threat...
I might be rude, but I'm just sick and tired of people "helping" animals to boost them selves, and not for the good of the animals, and frankly, this is how this whole thing sounds to me.
Especially after the topic starter got so offensive when I said, in a very nice way, that I would give it to a wild life rescue...
This just dosen't seam right in my eyes. Sorry if I someone thinks I'm a b***h now, this is just how I read this, and I only read it this way, because I've seen so many people react this way, because of the reasons I explained...
Btw - I know how to raise a baby bird too - this dosen't mean I would do it, because I do not have the space and time necerssary to help the animal, and what if it's like a blackbird, that has to learn it's song from it's dad? Then it has no way of mating when it gets set back out, and then you could just as well have killed it. A wild life rescue will know about these sorts of things.

Well what was she supposed to do leave the baby there to die ? NO
She done the right thing by taking it in and trying to give it a good chance of survival.
She just said her wildlife rescuse's arn't intrested in it as most arnt !
Oh so you would leave it there to die of starvation if your wildlife rescues would'nt take it?.
I am not starting nothing all i am saying is she done a good thing and you arn't being very fair to her !
It takes people like her in the world to care about animals as much as she must do is she dedicated her time and money to raising the baby.
She came on to ask people who HAS experiance with this sort of work she did'nt come to get contradicted.

Sorry if i seemed rude, but she is trying her best.. she couldn't just leave the bird to die and there are no wildlife rescues that take birds near her.

Emm, when Chinchi said the thing about the wildlife rescue and that she said it in a nice way she only suggested and tbh it was how the thread started, there was an original question to which people give their opinions. Then lazykittenmoon can do whatever she wants as that is what she will do. No one said anything about leaving the bird to die.
I don't think anyone tried to be rude or anything. It was just an opinion. If you don't like opinions don't ask for them. I'm sorry if you think that we were just getting at you but it wasn't like that.

Hmmm, I don't think it is a sparrow of any type because sparrows only have brown beaks. Have you considered a Robin? They have yellow beaks.
Now, hey, Paw Talk members, what's up??!! Lazykittenmoon only asked "Found baby bird, need help identifying species" . . . She simply said, "I think he's a sparrow . . . also, "how do I teach it to fly and what age?" and she got pretty much attacked. I mean if you stepped "out of the box" and read it, she got some pretty nasty answers. That's not like us here. Yes, we are all for "what is best for the animals", but let's give her a break. She is doing what she can for this animal. At the time, there was nobody around, she rescued this little bird and at least it is still alive, right? If she had of left it, it would have been dead by now. And, maybe, she does not know the species yet, but she must be doing something right, because it is still doing well, so what really is the harm? Harsh words never helped anyone and that is what I have read from several posts here. Now, I may get a few back from my opinion, but, I guess that will be your option too. I just thought that if you really looked at this in another view, she was looking out for the best of an animal. No need for harsh words.
I welcome you to the forum, Lazykittenmoon, and hope you don't stop posting. Not all members behave like this. Most of us are welcoming and helpful and kind. I hope your little bird is still thriving and growing, and if it hasn't made it, then you know that you at least gave it a chance to live it's last moments in safety and not in fear. >^..^<

Hi welcome, congrats about keeping the bird going and strong
Many wildlife places don't keep baby birds that aren't endangered as they say it is the law of nature
maybe you will have to keep it in an enclosure in your yard when it grows up i'm not sure you should be able to keep it alive in the winter with some heat lamps and bird feeders
(i hadn't posted on this thread because i don't want to get attacked by this idea either, so don't)

Ok, something to consider here guys is what if it is a starling? I raised a starling once because the rehabber said it was better for me to keep it, it had imprinted on me (after 2 days) because it was so young and would not be able to be released because it thought it was a human! My starling had a yellow beak when I got it that turned black as it got older. I initially thought it was a robin because of the beak. When he was a little older I fed him softened cat food for the protein (that he desperately needed) and eventually found him a permanent home with a bird lover who has him to this day.
I taught him to fly by getting him pirched on my finger then dropping my hand a couple of feet quickly to get him to flap, eventually he just took off.
I dunno if you have starlings in your area but many types very social birds imprint on their mothers to know what they are. Starlings imprinted on humans think they are people and get crazy happy and friendly when you have a party lol.
