Found baby bird. Need help identifying species and some other stuff

Heres a picture. We found him at work, along with 4 dead siblings. He already lived the night with me in an incubator (which i have for eggs but its the same concept)

Any way: Heres what he looks like i think he's a sparrow.



Also, How do i teach it to fly and what age?

I dont think it is a sparrow as it has a yellow beak, sparrows have brown beaks. Maybe its a black bird ? I dont think you need to teach them to fly, its just instinct.

i dunno he's really tiny. i made him a nest out of spanish moss lol. The guys at work named him Rocky. He's a good eater too and has been poopin as well

I always found baby birds when I was younger because we had tons of trees. He is very cute, I don't know how to help them though. As long as he's eating he should be fine.

I would give him to a wild life rescue.
They know how to get them out in the wild when they are old enough, and how not to make them like humans

If you don't know what he is, how do you know what to feed him?

For example, Finches or Sparrows have different diets than Robins. Just because you've raised squirrels is no proof you can be successful with baby birds. They are completely different in needs and diets.

How are you going to keep him from becoming imprinted? You don't need to worry about flying, but if he is imprinted or too tame, that's a death sentence for a wild bird.

Licensed rehabbers are the best solution. If you don't know enough about birds to identify it, you don't have the knowledge base to successfully raise a bird that will survive release. It's also a legal issue, which obviously isn't important to you.... If you don't have a license, you haven't proven to the state you have the facilities or the knowledge to care for these animals. You could (at minimum) be fined for possession of any native species. They are ALL protected under the Migratory Bird Act.

I hope your arrogance doesn't cost the bird it's life.

The bird is a house finch, and ive been feeding him baby bird formula which he likes. Bob, i know what im doing. Right now, he has lived 2 days eating and pooping. I think he'll make it. I know how to prevent it from imprinting and how to get it afraid of humans. I've dont that with the squirrel.

Also, i was gettin defensive before, lol.

Any way, his crop is nice and full. Feeding him every 3 hours.

I must agree with Mygala - you shuldn't be rasing this animal, no matter how good intentions you have...

I really think, my dear, that it isn't about whether you know what you're doing or not, it's about what's best for the bird. Unfortunatley, you are not what's best for the bird. Please accept this, and give it to a rehab

I agree, I'm sure you're doing a good job but it really would be best if you gave it to a rehab where they can successfully release it into the wild when the time comes. It really is what's best for the bird, which is what all this is about.

I think that if you know what you're doing you should ignore people that are critical of everythig you say.. =I leave them alone guys they're doing the best they can.. and i'd get defencive if someone cricised everything i said.
