Found Wild Bird!

Hi!

I went out to water my crickets when I saw something scurrying around. When I came closer I found out that it was a bird running with a glue trap attached to it's wing. I caught her, carefully cut the couple of feathers attaching her to the trap and put her in a spare birdcage with water and food. She still has some glue on her feet. What can I do for it? Also, she lost all her tail feathers while fighting with the trap (before I arrived) and a bit of her wing feathers. Can she fly? I want to let her free again, but I want to make sure that she can fly cause there are a lot of cats. I haven't seen her attempt it so far, but I bet she's tired from the run with the trap. I took a pic of her for you to see....

Thanks for your help.

Put a little talcum powder on the feet to negate the stickiness of the glue, and she should be good to go. Missing a couple of wing feathers should be no big deal, they drop them a few at a time when moulting. Tail feathers are a bigger deal, but doves are ground feeders and she should still do okay.

Keep her as little time as possible, a quick rerelease is always best.

Thanks for helping this baby, first thing if you have any birds of your own please don't let them near the wild baby.
You should try and keep her warm and call a wildlife rehabber in your area. Here's a link to find one http://www.wildliferehabilitators.com/links.htm if you can't find one sometimes your local animal shelter will have a number.

MyGala knows way more than I do I'd go with what he said

I agree, it is nice that you are helping her. Poor baby, she is beautiful though. Those sticky traps are nasty, that glue is hard to get off. Had a cat get it's foot and tail stuck to one, ended up having to clip the fur where it was stuck.
