Hyacinth Macaw
I know there are a lot of people here that just love the Hyacinth Macaws, so when I came across this article I thought ya'll might enjoy reading about 'em. They are such beautiful birds - I would LOVE to have one someday.
The Hyacinth Macaw
The Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) is one of 16 living species of macaws and the largest parrot in the world. There are six genera of macaws and the Hyacinth is one of three species of the genus Anodorhynchus. One of the other two species of this genus is thought to be extinct (A. glaucus, the Glaucus Macaw) and the other (A. leari, called either the Lear's or Indigo Macaw) is severely threatened.

I've heard that too. (smack him in the head for me ) The lady I got Toby from said she thinks they're the ugliest of all macaws. I see the opposite - I LOVE them!!! And they're such gentle guys. Angie (I know, I know) told me that Sky (HY) is more gentle & loving than her B&G or GW.
If only they didn't come with a $7,000 to $12,000 price tag!

I love them!! I always have. I actually got to hold one and cradle him in my arms like a baby when I visited Parrot Jungle in Miami! I should dig out the pics and scan a couple...
If you are ever in the Miami area you should try to visit Parrot Jungle... I can't wait to go back there. It's just awesome... the Hyacinths are such gentle giants! The ones I was lucky enough to have the chance to interact with... omg I was in love They are so sweet and affectionate. Just gorgeous Macaws. Their color is so vibrant and gorgeous, like velvet!
Thanks for posting that information Jodi, it was great reading!!
