Jendaya Conure
Im getting a Jendaya Conure from my sister later today. She doesnt have the time to care for him and give him the attention he needs and deserves.
From what my mom and sister have told me his name is Petey and he is about a year old. the gentleman who initiatially owned him when he was young didnt socialize much with him and then my mom got him and my sister fiancee wanted him so they have him now.
I have the feeling im gonna have to have alot of patience with this bird but its not hard for me as I totally love all animals. And am home most of the time expect when i have classes at college 2 days a week for about 3 hours in the morning.
Wish me luck im sure im gonna need it lol

You're going to have fun!
Jendays are great birds, ..lots of energy, playful, and sweet.
Just be prepared for that conure screech. It can wear on your eardrums after awhile...

Congrats! Jendays can be great birds! Like Bob said, those conures have quite the screech though!!
Give the bird a few days to settle into it's new home. Best of luck with the new guy and be sure to let us know if you have any questions!

Here he is in all his glory: he climbed out of the cage they had transported him in and right on to my hand i fed him a few mealies and filled his water dish and food dish

I'd have some second thoughts about feeding mealworms to a conure.
For one thing, in the wild, insects are not a major component of their diet. Fruits and seeds are their primary diet. Several authorities classify them as frugivores. Mango (even though not native to S. America) is now a natural part of their diet. Figs also play a prominent part.
Secondly, I and my vet have both seen way too many of them succumb to gout.
They, as well as Suns and a couple of other species, seem to be very sensitive to too much protein in their diets.. Mealworms are great little protein packets for reptiles and other carnivores, but for most frugivores and granivores they shouldn't be considered for the diet.
A good pelleted diet that makes up more than 50-70% of the parrots total intake would be my suggestion. For the rest, veggies, fruits ...and the VERY occasional "mealie" would be okay, ...but I think it'd be way too easy to go overboard with something like that.
I'd give that protein in another way.. cheese tidbits (supplements calcium) or maybe some peanut butter on whole wheat bread.
I think you'd do great using sunflower seeds for training. That's what many professional trainers use for birdshows. You could also try Pine nuts for a little variety.
Just my suggestions..
Bob

Yeah, I'm with Bob on this one. I wouldn't suggest feeding mealies to a conure. Pellet diets are excellent nutrition and quite sufficient. As for human foods, you can try some veggies, brown rice, sweet taters, etc. Just like nuts, hard cheeses (cheddar, romano, parmesan, etc) are excellent treats!
