my birds
Hello everyone!
I thought I'd pop into the bird forum and introduce my fids to you. In order of appearance:
Cami, my 1-year-old cockatiel hen.
Beeper, my 8-year-old rescued senegal parrot.
and Sam, my 16-year-old adopted blue-fronted amazon.
Since bringing home Cami, I've really become immersed with birds. Now I do volunteer work at the aviary and zoo and get to work with all kinds of birds - from golden eagles and hyacinth macaws to kookaburras and magpies. But my own fids are very dear to me, of course. I love to show off pictures of them

I try not to have favorites in my flock, but I can't help it; he's my favorite, too. He came from an abusive home, and we put a lot of time and money into rehabilitating him. As you can see from the picture, he used to feather pick. I believe he has follicle damage and will never be fully feathered again.
He's my favorite because, despite coming from an abusive home, he has become my loyal friend. He'll let me manhandle him any which way I want - I don't have to towel him, not even for painful procedures (had to pull a blood feather a few weeks ago). He also has the most personality out of all my birds. Sam is definitely the most photogenic. Cami is the most loveable. But Beeper... he's my little baby.

I love your fids! If I only had room, I'd have at least a dozen more! Beeper is lucky to have found a person with a true bird heart.

I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal. And I was angry. "God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?" God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly. "I have done something," He replied. I created You."

Wow - I've been having trouble finding other birds with Cami's mutation. If anybody knows exactly what it's called, I'd love to know! It's hard to tell, but she has yellow lacings on her wings. (one of the reasons we think she's a girl, since male pearls don't retain lacings after the first molt)
Thanks for sharing the story!
