I'd like to share some pictures of Roxie - my 2 year old Blue&Gold Macaw. She is, without a doubt, the sweetest little girl in the world. Full of joy, a little clown ... I just can't put into words how wonderful she is. To say we're madly in love with her would be an understatement.
Some of you may remember my beloved Eephus, and some of you may remember the attack made on me when I tried to intro Roxie a year and half or so ago (I fear several people saw it before it was taken down). It was implied that rather than spend any money on medical treatment for Eephus - we let him die so we could replace him. Nothing could be further from the truth - we spent thousands on him, and finally resorted to putting him on a drug for his plucking disorder. While it helped with the plucking, it made him claustrophobic and he died a horrible death trying to escape his cage while he was home alone. Drugs are as wrong a solution for birdies as they are for humans - that's a lesson I learned the hard way and something I'll feel guilty about until the day I die. I wish I had defended myself back then - but it seemed easier to just stay away as I was on the outs with two different members here and I felt like I was being double-teamed. IMO, yes, we did get Roxie way too soon after Eephus died, but that was my husband's decision.
Anyway, now I'm glad we got her, I can't imagine life without her ! Eephus chose me, which is something very special that I know will probably never happen to me again ... but I still love this little girl with all my heart !
