new parakeet

Hello,

We have a parakeet now for 6 days. My 11 year old daughter purchased one after driving us nuts for a year. I have owned birds in the past and I am working with her on the new baby.

The name of the bird is sky. Last sunday when we purchased the bird it yelled when the store put her in the box - once we got to the car we got a pleasent chirp - however sky has not said ONE word/chrip since.

We work with her daily - she is getting used to sitting on our fingers, she bites sometimes, but not hard at all. Is it normal for a parakeet not to chirp?
