Not sure if this is norml or a growth or fungus

Our parakeet (blue/white) has a small seed-like growth just above or right on top of its eye. This spot is tan in color. It also has tan-ish spongy areas on both sides of its beak and its beak is rather dull in color. It is otherwise healthy and is eating fine. It is currently in a cage with a yellow/green parakeet and it has no signs of this, but its beak is shiny. Is there something wrong? I can't seem to find anything that matches this on the internet and as I was searching, I stumbled upon this site. Can anyone help me figure this out?

It would be helpful if you could post a pic to see what it is your describing.

If you take it in to be seen make sure it is an Avian vet.

Without seeing it, it's really hard to say.

More than likely, it's something simple. It's very likely something foreign that has gotten attached there, or a small growth (someting like a benign tumor). I doubt that it is a fungus of some kind, but I guess it's a remote possibility.

What you need to do is take the bird to a vet. They can diagnose it and remove it. The bird will be better, you'll feel better, ...win/win.

To me this looks like a nutriton deficiency. The skin and feathers and beak are all unhealthy because they are linked. So what are you feeding the birds? Ofcourse it could be unrelated, i just thought it might be diet. Also it may be the pic, but it looks like the bird has some dead feathers left from a molt. If thats true then a few baths should get rid of it. Good luck finding the problem

We are taking it in to the avian vet today. My daughter is very worried that her CeCe is sick. She's already lost one bird about a year ago and she certainly doesn't want to lose this one. We'll feel much better knowing what it is.

While I was at it, I took some pics of our other parakeet, Katrina. It's amazing what this lens picks up. Now I think her cere looks affected, too.

Yes, this needs to be looked at. It looks like scaly face and if it is it will spread to the entire beak, area around the eyes and the legs and feet.

Thanks. To the naked eye, I couldn't see it on Katrina, so I'm glad I took a picture of her too. We're leaving in a few minutes for the vet. Wish us luck.

Update:
CeCe (blue) has scaly face mites, but Katrina did not. However, the vet treated both birds as a precaution. Question...does the injection make them sleepy or more docile? They seemed more loving after this ordeal.

it could be scaley face or mites..these conditions can be treated..
it also could be a tumour be it may nbot be cancerous.
go to av avian vet right away
