Peep! Peep! Peep!
After a 6 year period without chickens, I finally convinced my mom to let me get a few. So today we went to the feed store, and came home with 4 chicks! They are supposed to be all hens, so no worries about roosters (which are technically illegal here). We got 3 araucanas (although I suspect they may be americauna), and one rhode island red. we like the araucanas because they lay greenish-blueish eggs. I just really like the coloring of the rhode island reds, and had to get one of those, as well.
there are only two easily visible in the photo, one is black, you can see her hiding, and the other one looks like the brown one.
So, these ladies need names!
And I must be the luckiest gal alive, I get to spend Easter playing with baby chicks, and bunnies! lol... now if only we had a lamb...

Well, I've got some sad news. Two of the chicks didn't make it through the night, and one doesn't look good. I don't know what went wrong, we had them set up like we've done before, and we've never had problems like this. Now we have just the rhode island red, and one araucana (the araucana is the one sitting on the feeder in the pic). I'm hoping the little araucana pulls through, or we're going to have one lonely chickie until tomorrow when the feed store opens. For now, I've got them in a brooding box setup, for younger chicks, and I'm keeping a close watch on them all day. I'm also trying to figure out exactly what went wrong.
