I have a grey.
He's a Timneh (TAG), named Dizzy.
What exactly are you wanting to know?

They are one of my favorite parrots but that is the extent of my knowledge about them. Other than that any parrot is alot of work and care!!

This will probably sound kinda crazy - I've had 3 African Grays (two Timnehs and one Congo) and we just aren't Gray people! The first one was wonderful and I still miss her so much but someone (mentioning no names Hubby) left the door open for the dogs while her cage was open and she left home. The other two did nothing but attack us every time we went near the cage. I've learned that with birds it is sometimes better if they pick you than vice versa. (They all learned to talk in a very short period of time, and I hand-raised all of them.)
My talking to buddy is Henry, my Eclectus. We've had him since he was about 8 months old - somewhere around 8 years now. He is a hoot! We sing, we talk, we whistle. To put the dogs outside we only have to say "C'mon, Girls" one time and he takes over. He mimics the cat and calls him by name. Also calls two of the dogs names but can't seem to get third one - yet. He uses my voice, hubby's voice, a friend's voice (where we board him), and his own voice. He whispers ("I'm Daddy's pretty pretty pretty boy") and sometimes he just squawks. Can you tell I'm crazy about him? He's the only one of my birds that I didn't hand raise - plus I've raised cockatiels for my daughter and my parents. Eckies aren't as well known as the Grays but are second to them in their ability to talk.
I also have a Senegal who says a few words, but she's a small bird with a much smaller voice. The Parrotlet just chirps.
Learn, learn, learn all you can before getting a bird. They are a different kind of responsibility than other pets. I'd suggest that you look for any bird shows in your area and go there and look at all the different birds and talk to breeders, etc, before you make the plunge. They're like everything else - one is never enough!
Good luck!!

They arent a bird for everyone. The one you see up there is in his third (and final) home.
I wouldnt recommend a Grey as a first bird. Certanly not if you want one that talks. While they can be great imitators, many don't learn to talk.
If you want a talking bird, I'd recommend a budgie. They are great talkers, easy to keep and one of my all time favorite birds.

I agree with you, Bob. Although the Gray's weren't my first birds they are difficult and certainly not the bird for everyone. A friend calls them the "engineers" of the bird world.......
IMO, a Quaker wouldn't be a bad starter either. Good talker, lively personality. Of course, depends on if they are legal in your state or not!
