Step Up?

Does your bird say "Step Up" when you go to pick him up?

Every morning Toby says "Step Up" when I open his cage door and put my hand in to let him out. He doesn't say it until he's just starting to step up onto my hand. Little goofball.

My birds don't say it but they know the command. Pony was never hand trained, but he knows the "step up" command. That's pretty weird if you ask me...Soda knows it and responds only when he's out of his cage, but that's parakeets for ya!

Ok, I don't have a bird myself, but I had to say something in this thread.

At work we had a double yellow head Amazon and a blue front Amazon next to each other. We always say step up to any bird we have there. Anyways, before the blue front was sold, they would talk to each other.

One would say "step up, step up" while the other would say "good bird!"

It was hilarious!

Beekle doesn't say anything. He just pecks my finger then stands on it. I think he's trying to reassure himself that it's solid but with a budgie it could mean anything.

Nikko says every so often...

Nikki says it EVERY TIME SHE STEPS UP ON ANYTHING! She'll even step up and down between perches back and forth saying "Step Up" as she steps up and "Step Down" when she goes to the lower perch. It's like watching her teach an aerobics class because she'll do it over and over and over again lol

Lol, Beekle can be like that. Every other budgie I've owned or known steps up almost instinctively, but not Beekle. If you play 'finger ladder' with him he'll go along for a short while but then starts nibbling the fingers and muttering. Then he stops half way through a step and looks at you as if to say "Let's see you move those fingers now"

Cairo has started saying "step up" when she wants out of her cage. She is only about five and a half months old but is really starting to talk up a storm!

My birds can talk like crazy, but Step Up isn't in their vocabulary yet although they do know what to do when you put your hand in the cage and tell them to do that.

Sometimes I think I'm a bit nuts because I'll carry on conversations with them - especially Capn. He thinks that Henry talks to him and calls him bad names. Okay, so who is crazy???
