Teaching Jasmine to talk.

As some of you may know i have a 2 year old quaker parrot named Jasmine. i would like to be able to teach her to talk,i am around her all the time and talk to her alot, i don't think the people that owned her before me talked to her or were ever around her for very long. I have only had her for about 6 months, she is very good at mimicking sounds like whistles and clicking sounds and when you laugh she trys to laugh with you. my question is, do you all have any ideas for trying to teach her to talk? i know some parrots just can't talk but i would like to at least try .

thanks bunches for any help.

ive never had a parrot (always wanted one tho )

but ive seen on Tv shows where you would say some things into a tape recorder or something and set it on repeat when you go out somewhere, or just for a few hours during the day. i personally think this would drive me mad but well.. it might work. i also read somewhere years ago, that you should leave a talk radio station on when you go away, or a quiet tv, to expose them to a larger vocabulary.. altho.. im willing to bet they could pick up some really random things this way, one of my friends used to have a parrot, he almost always had his radio on, for himself not the bird, and the only thing it picked up was the station name, i would assume cuz it was repeated the most.. " 94.5 wkti - milwaukee" and he would just randomly say it if there were alot of people around and it got quiet.. made his own comercial breaks i suppose.. anyway.. im rambling.. i think the best way to get a bird to talk would prolly be to spend atleast an hour every day just talking to the bird, one on one.. having some tasty rewards nearby would prolly help too

Some birds just don't talk. There are DVD's available to try to train them, but they are most annoying and I'd hate for my bird to talk like that!

I've had an Eclectus parrot for about 7 years and he talks up a storm - but then he and I spend a lot of time in the house together. I sing to him, talk to him, he talks to me. He's "Daddy's pretty pretty bird" but I've only heard him say Mama once. He gives kisses. His most favorite phrase is "What are you doing?" and no answer makes him happy. (We used to have another bird who would answer "Pickin' my nose" and he was fine with that from that bird, but not from us!)

My Senegal talks some, but you have to listen carefully. The smaller the bird, the higher pitched the sound so your bird may actually be saying some words that you don't quite catch. It took some time for me to realize that Moji would say "Hello" when the phone rings and that she says her name. She may say more, I just don't catch it.

Be patient and keep talking. And if the talking doesn't start you can always start whistling songs or different sounds to her. (I think all of mine can sound like the microwave oven!)

Good luck!
