'Too or Macaw?

I've heard good things about both breeds... I just want to know which you guys consider the better bird, pet, or simply animal.

Thanks.

This is a question without a rational answer. We can't tell you which would be a better bird for you without knowing you, your life and lifestyle ...in GREAT detail.

Both of these birds have specific demands and needs. They are few people (including many present owners) who I feel are qualified to be good owners. Cockatoos in particular require special handling when young to keep them from becoming a plucker when adult. I don't think anyone without a goodly amount of prior experience, ...with large birds, should take on a cockatoo as a first bird.

No one here who is experienced with these birds would consider recommending them for a first owner without knowing that person extremely well.

Most responsible breeders and rescues require an extensive "howdy" period between the owner and the bird, or an extensive background check of the prospective owner.

Since none of us know you, it would be impossible to answer your question in reference to your situation. I suggest you get some books, look up some web pages, find some local breeders/rescues, and do a little "in person" research. You can learn a lot from this web site, it's one of the best on the internet, but you really ought to find this stuff out for firsthand.

I suppose I could give you a pretty good background of my experience and lifestyle. I believe I already mentioned that I have a lot of experience with many different kinds of animals and bigger birds. I planned, first hand, on either completely hand feeding the baby or partially hand feeding the baby, seeing as that I have experience in the field. I live in a large house with no big disturbances and can and do dedicate a large amount of time with my animals. I understand that both are very big commitments, and I have said this in my past boards...Either way, the bird will be given a very large amount of quality time with me, other people, and different experiences to stimulate it. I've done a lot of research on parrots in general and also specifically, and now just want some back up from Cockatoo and Macaw owners, just to see what would best fit my interests. Sorry if it seemed as if I was being incredibly unspecific.

Thank you, Bob.

I think what Keppeh wants to know is not which bird is best for her but what are the major differences in personality and care which one is easier to socailaize if there is a difference on that one. I think she just wants info on both birds from people who own them. what have you found most difficult in owning either a 'Too or a Macaw.Things like that.
Correct me if I am wrong here Keppeh

I agree with Bob... there is so much to know before saying one way or the other.

All birds have their own personalities regardless of species.

Having had a too, and now a macaw I can say safely that the Too is for me. However, there is still a lot of research to be done and questions to ask.

I am presently seriously considering another Too for myself. I've talked to many people who have expressed concern with my choice of Too. I really want a Moluccan.

Talk to as many local breeders/owners as you can is my advice. Meet their birds if they allow it. Get a feel of both.

Ok see what she wants to know is what makes a "Too" more for you than a Macaw what was it about the Macaw that made it not a bird for you.I understand that every bird has its own personality just as people do but if that were true if you were to get another 'Too maybe that one would not be for you.I think she just wants to know the major differnces and characteristics of them.

Haha. I think I'm going to end up getting a Macaw. I'll hand raise it so it will probably be very loving. I also love the colours, personality, I like the large size and can deal with a life long, demanding companion (which both Cockatoos and Macaws are). So yeah.

I think I'd go with blue and gold. I love their bigger, dark eyes, and I've heard they're pretty tame..But let me compare.

I really love the B&G because they have more babyish faces.
