We have an egg!

Bonnie laid an egg today! I'm thrilled!

The extra calcium and vita-sol have paid off!

The egg looks frail to me, but what do I know, I've never had doves, only parrots.

The male is sitting on the egg right now, and he's cooing like crazy and won't shush *laughs*

I doubt it's fertile, they're both fairly young... and I never SAW an actual successful mating attempt...

Anyhow I just thought I'd share....

Wow, how exciting! Good luck with that. From what I know, dove eggs are supposed to look frail. I hope it hatches for you.

I can't tell if there are two eggs now or not, the "male" is sitting on the nest making a lot of noise, and The "female" is eating..... I think I got my male and female confused *laughs*
Anyhow Clyde, the nest sitter is doing good... when the eggs roll out from under him, he pushes them back in... He still sits on the next when I reach in and pet him too, he even put his head down so i could scratch his neck....
Bonnie, the supposed female, is the flighty one, she's acting all crazy like she has no idea what happened.

Bonnie isn't sitting at all... only Clyde is egg sitting... I gave him some food and water, as he will NOT leave his nest, poor guy.. he's such a good parent, I really hope it hatches so his hard work will pay off.

well, I got my male and female mixed up *of course* The chubby one is the female, I know because I heard her laying her egg.

The eggs didn't hatch unfortunatly, they weren't fertile... I candled them and there was nothin, I felt so bad when I threw them out too... I wanted to cry, it felt like I was killing babies..I'm still pretty upset about it.

I hope so!
I'm going to keep loading them up on eggs and grit and vitimins for another week before I let them nest again tho, I want them to be healthy.

Hopefully next time you'll get some baby doves.
Are your doves, or atleast female mean when they have an egg?

No actually, Doves are extreamly tollerant of human invasion during their nesting periods.
for example, Bonnie nested in a coffee filter box *emergency nest* and I had to clean out her cage during her two week incubation time, I just picked her up, nest and all, and cleaned under her....

I would even take the eggs out to candle them *i'm not very good at candling eggs apparently.*

She was a total sweetie the whole time.
