Hi Everybirdie ~
I'm wondering what you feed your Sun Conure. Our new baby is just 10 weeks old now and she hasn't been needing any more "baby food" these last two days. She loves her seed/pellet mixture that we bought for her but I'd like to know what you feed your conure.

In this mixture we bought it has red beans in it and I just read that dry beans of different kinds are toxic to birds....I think I read this on The Perch newsletter.
I gave her some sliced apple yesterday and she loved it! She loves her Zupreem pellets Garden Goodness and Wild n' Spicy. Thanks!

Pellets are the best food for parrots.

Supplement them with other things for enrichment, and social interaction. However, most avian vets are going to recommend that at least half the diet consist of a pelleted, or extruded diet.

Most types of beans are not toxic. However, there are some types that shouldn't be fed in large amounts. Further, there is a growing feeling among some vets and breeders that Sun Conures, and some of the other Aratingas, are susceptible to avian gout (perhaps more than most birds). Consequently, diet is very important, as you want to control the amount of protein the bird ingests. Beans are high in protein and should be limited or avoided altogether.

Keeya Tucson is doing great!

Well our new little birdie is doing so good. We've had her 3 weeks tomorrow....She loves her pellets and fresh veggies and fruit and gets some seeds every day. She is a dunker....I gave her some Cheerios and she likes to double dunk them in her water first! I found out that what I thought was beans in her seed/ pellet mixture is really red skinned peanuts.
We are just loving this little bird.....she is so playful and loves to hide in my shirt sleeve every night! She has gained 10 grams now. I'll try to post some pictures this next week.
