Who's the boss now?!
Sapphire seems to think SHE is!
So much for getting he harness on her again! (Oh don't worry I am NOT giving up on her! )
On Sunday I tried to put her harness on her again & she was having NO part of it & made sure I knew that!
Granted I have heard of MUCH more sever bites than this - but the baby side of me says OWIE!!! Right one the nail bed even! (I had JUST painted my nails a couple hours before hand lol)

Tell me about it Chisanne! I was very prud of my reaction (or lack there of) too! When she bit me (& then grabbed the harness out of my hand & threw it ) I remained VERY calm & didn't respond to it. I merely picked her up & put her back on her playgym & then went & washed it off & the pain set in.
I find it amazing teh patience I have with her versus my human children - Sapphire seems to get away with murder! lol

Has she siad what exactly is it she refuses about the harness? Maybe it's just the color....

Ouch. Though I've never had a big parrot, I've suffered some nasty bites from flying degus, hamsters, other birds, etc etc, and yes, it hurts! Animal companions, like human companions, can and will hurt you at some point in time, but then again, there are lots of rewarding things you do with them, too!

Kay,
I'm glad both of you know who is in charge. That's an important step in bird training.
...the next step is both of you AGREEING who is in charge

Owie!! Did she say sorry yet? Just kidding...I've never had a bird before, but do they take discipline? Like do they respond to "no" like dogs? Just wondered..

Actually For Sapphire -- we tell her "Gentle" when she is getting too rough & she usually will lighten up a bit... with this particular bite though I said LOTSA words, but in my head- I showed no emotion to her & calmly put her back on her play gym for "time out" while I took care of my finger & got it to stop bleeding. After a little while I took her back down & gave her kisses & told her that she hurt me & showed her my finger & again said "gentle" She was fine the rest of the night.
So IMO ... yes birds to respond to various commands & most certainly do understand what you are saying .. it is whether or not they choose to listen is another story.
