When My girlfriend went to get a dog from the shelter recently, the lady at the shelter kept saying, oh no, this one is going to rescue, she said that about three different dogs. She would not let my friend have an option to adopt. Why not?

What kind of shelter was it, privately run or a Humane Society?

Sometimes they have rules about not letting cats outside and if they found out you would allow a cat to go outside, they may not allow you to adopt. I too have been turned down for an adoption before.

Ever think those dogs may of really had adoption pending on them?

When someone is interested in one of the beagles,we give them (dogs) the adoption pending title...that way if the people interested turn out to be a good family for the dog, they will be able to adopt the dog before someone else.

Vanilla Rat,
That makes a lot of sense. We got one of our dogs from Great Pyerenees Rescue and I know there are a lot of different rescue organizations for the different breeds. The person who fostered our dog came to check us out and checked our yard for fencing etc. to make sure we would be a good fit. I think that shelters giving dogs to breed spacific rescue groups is a way to make sure an adoption is going to go smoothly.
