Odd and scary..
So this morning, I was laying in bed watching t.v. And all of a sudden I hear a loud scream.
I almost thought it was a dog, but I look over to the hamster cages, and it's coming from my hamster boy, boo.
He was like curled up in a ball, and he was literally screaming, not a quiet squeak, but extremely loud..and it went on for 3 minutes.
It scared me so much. It was like a scream that he was in pain.
But I don't know, maybe he was dreaming? Or maybe he was hurting?
Has this ever happened to your rodents? Or anyone know why it happened?
He seems fine, I picked him up and checked him out. I don't know though, it just scared me. The loudest I have ever heard a hamster.

Nothing could have scared him, not that I know of. No dogs or cats around. It was like 9 in the morning, and the only noise was the tv. Maybe it was the tv?
but who knows, it was just scary cause it came out of no where, and he was asleep.
he seems perfectly fine now, but i'm going to keep my eye on him.

i've never heard of a hamster just screaming if not being attacked....wierd...maybe someone else has a tip, otherwise if it's from pain then a vet trip might help?

Hmmm, sounds weird to me.
My hamster will make a small squeaking noise (sounds more like clucking to me) when he wants attention, but I've never heard anything like that before.
Just check he is being normal, eating and drinking fine.. and I should think he'll be okay, but if you are worried, take him to the vets
Good luck
xx

maybe the tv was high pitched -ive heard it before if i turn my head a certain way,and its hardly noticeable until you leave the room and recognize the ringing in your ears....

The baby hamsters we took in are very random screamers as well. I didn't even know hamsters could make noise, but they seem to like to scream when they want treats or attention.

My Ruby used to scream and hiss when I tried to pick her up... Its just a defensive thing that they do when theyre scared.
Maybe something was hurting your hammy?? Its just a guess, but maybe some thing internally has hurting him and he freaked out a little... adn thats why it diddnt appear that any thing was really wrong from the out side. Maybe you should take him to the vet.

Maybe he is hurting inside. He wont even let me pick him up anymore. I was in the midst of taming him, and he was starting to do really well, until now. It's like he is back to his jumpy frantic self.
I don't know. Would a vet really know how to help? Would they take an x-ray? I just don't know how a vet would go about this.

I remember my hamster made a noise like that..it was bc she was roaming the room and my rat ran up to her...she immediately fell on her back and "screamed"..another time I startled her and and she stood on her hind legs...she was one of those hamsters that was easily freaked out

Im not exaclty sure what they would do or if they would take X-rays, bu tits definatly worth a shot.
If you can pick him up, try to feel for lumps and bumps... Maybe a tumor or something is pressing against something thats causing him pain?
Im no vet, so this is all just a guess.
But if he is in pain, then that could be why hes acting so jumpy and panicy and wont let you touch him.
