The Girls are Fighting
I had to seperate Senga and Sorcha cause they are fighting horribly and I'm afraid they will hurt each other. I have had to seperate them from a rolling ball of Jird 3 times - the last time they refused to quit so I took one out and put her in another container... but it's not jird-friendly. Ugh, I don't know why they are fighting - they are in a much bigger cage with tons of stuff to do - they really have no reason to fight. GRR!!

Oh no, that is not good. Are they constantly fighting? Could one of them possibly be in heat and that be causing the fighting?
There is a woman up here that sells Jirds, that has somewhere around 20 in a 55 gallon aquarium.

I'm afraid I may have to get rid of one or both. Interesting that you mention, heat, though - the one that is starting it, I saw her humping the other last night. Hmm...

I put them back together and they went at it again so I turned another plastic container into a home for Senga - looks like they're mature now and the literature was right, as I suspected. Now to get that male! LOL

How come you will have to get rid of them? I hope you didn't get hurt to bad! Are you getting a male to mate them? Are you going to breed them? Am I asking too many questions?

Capn, what I am thinking about doing is getting a male and maybe selling one of the females. You can't house a male and a female together, to breed you check to see if the female is in heat by holding the male near her - if she wags her tail she's in heat. You put him in, let them mate, and take him out! lol The only reason I may get rid of one girl is because I have no room. I am FINALLY getting a new cage for Ami and since I had to seperate the girls, in order to get a male that means another cage. So we'll see what happens.
Ty - from what I have read, you're right. But as I stated above, introducing a male doesn't fix it. And it DID hurt! They're teeth are sharper than a chins and they bite twice as hard!!

I know what you mean about no room. I want a chinchilla now from seeing all your so cute pics that everyone posts. But i actually cannot think about it because my apartment is so so tiny. Good Luck with your girlies, I know how bad you wanted them.
