Three Losses in Three Days

Hi.

I write here to do a memorial of three little girls that I've lost this past week.

On wednesday of this week, Cheddar, my oldest mouse, passed away. I didn't had her for a long time, just six months, but she was full grown when I got her. She was from the feeder bin, and extremely afraid of me. She even bit me once when I did the first mice cage cleaning. I worked with her every day and was able to handle her, even though she didn't came to me voluntarily.

Yesterday, I lost a little gerbil pup to Respiratory Infection. I was treating her, along with her littermates, but she didn't made it. Her littermates do not show signs or RI, but I'm treating them too, just in case, since I've read that it's contagious. She was 4 weeks old.

Today, I lost Afrodita, my albino dwarf hamster. She was a year old and died in the strangest conditions. Thursday I heard some sqeuaking in her cage. When I came to look she was attacking her two pups. I picked her up and she had a bloody belly and tail and had pulled her hair off. I put her in an empty cage and she calmed a bit. A couple of hours later she continued biting her belly and pulling her belly hair off. I found her dead about an hour ago in her cage.

The three of them will be greatly missed. 8(

Thanks for your support. I'll specially miss Cheddar, since I was making so much progress with her. At first if I just peeked into their cage she would hide and just stay there shaking.

If one or both the pups that Afrodita left behind are males, I'll keep them with their dad, Apollo. The pups are just 3.5 weeks old, not weaned yet, but old enough to eat solids. I've been giving them bread soaked in KMR since I separated the mom and seem to be doing fine. I still don't know the sexes, though, so wish me that they are both male, so I can keep them with Apollo. One is an albino, just like mom and the other is a normal. I had taken pics of them a couple of days ago, so I'll post them in another thread later.
