Right now I don't have any rodents. I have in the past, and right now I'm trying to find pymgy mice.
I've kept Flying Squirrels, Degus, Jerboas, Duprasi, Pygmy Gerbils, Zebra Mice, Dormice, and others in the past.

1 dwarf hamster, 1 gerbil (co-owned with my boyfriend) and three chinchillas on the way (also co-owned with my boyfriend)
As a side note, alot of people on this forum run rescues. I have thought about doing this. . . but how does someone start a rescue???

I have three male gerbils and 8 degus, all rescued.
Starting rescues is easy. You just take in all the animals that people donŽt want anymore and then youŽll try to find homes for them which isnŽt easy at all.

Starting is easy, yeah, you take in unwanted animals...that is the ONLY part that's easy...even then, sometimes you can't take in all that you want. One of my rescue policies is that the prospective rescue has to get along with my dogs...if not, we can't take them. That's why we mostly take pitbull pups under a year old. Then there are the very sad abuse cases and you have to work with them...some come in with nothing but skin and bones and such a complete fear of people, you have to pay lots of bills to get them physically healthy and spend months getting them emotionally healthy. These animals take a lot of work and a lot of money. Adoption fees more times than not don't cover 1/4 of the expenses! The only reward is to see an animal leave your home, happy and healthy and the smiles on the new owners faces. Follow up visits for the lifetime of the animal are also necessary with my rescue, most are wonderful, some have been painful, as no matter how much interviewing and how many background checks you do, occasionally a new owner is not what you think, and you are back to square one with that animal. Having to say no to an potential incoming rescue is heartbreaking, but one of the big things is making sure that no other animals in your home and your family doesn't suffer for you to be able to take the rescue. My own animals and my family come first...If I feel like any of my own animals or my family will suffer in order for me to tend to the rescue, I cannot accept them. I had to do that recently and I was really upset about it, but with the animals I have right now and my fiance's very...active son coming for the summer, I wouldn't have the time for another rescue right now. So, starting is yeah, easy, doing it right and continuing to do it, is definetly not for the weak.

If people would invest a fragment of the time and energy that you use for your rescue for their own pets, there wouldnŽt be so many homeless and abused animals around. I think you are doing a great job!!!

I have been thinking about starting a rescue myself. You see in my town we don't have no-kill shelters. We have one pound in this town. . and it actually has a f***ing drop box!!! So people who don't want them can just stick them in there to await being killed. WTF? That's like you're just renting an animal, and when you no longer want it you drop it off like at the movie store. My boyfriend told me about that and I swear I got so mad at him because I thought he was joking.I mean I honestly didn't think that people could be that cruel. .. I guess I was wrong. I might have to wait because I am living with my mom right now, and am in-between jobs. But I just can't stand the thought of those poor animals being thrown away. . ..

dang some people make me feel better about my rodent numbers.. LOL!!
12 rats (mostly from rescues, one from a breeder... others.. well.. you know how a feeder may touch your heart when just "looking" in a nasty pet store..... yeah)
14 cairo spiny mice (I breed, but do not sell or give away... they're not like normal mice and only have 1-3 babies per litter. my satins tend to throw only 1 baby while the creams give an average of 3)
1 african pouched rat
1 mouse left from a lab rescue a while back

Right now I own 4 Gerbils.
Boys - Chevy & Blazer
Girls - Mercedes & Lexus.
I have owned 3 other gerbils, and a hamster in the past... I think that's about it for Rodents.

I am owned by 16 wonderful chinchillas. I truly don't look at them as rodents, even though I know they are of the rodent family.
I, too, want to start a rescue. I think I would be worse than the shelters when it came to adoptions.
I would also like to own more chinchillas, but as of right now my husband says no.

I have one dwarf hammy. Her named is Cream Puff but we call her "Bitey" because she's a nippy little thing. Luckily it doesn't hurt and I think its more of a taste testing thing (hopefully LOL).

(just a little update...)
Now my rodent family consists of two male ratties. Could be adding more, though, my family seems to be enjoying them.
