Rats Rats Rats!! Without a doubt!! I have had hamsters etc and i now have 5 rats and NEVER again will i own a hamster!!! Rats are the coolest pets, they are clean, friendly, affectionate, fun to play with or cuddle(boys).highly intelligent, and just the best pets to have! I have 3 girls and 2 boys. If you are going to get rats you need at least 2 as they are highly social and thrive with another rats company although they get very close to humans they need that ratty playmate! Girls are much more active and inquisitive and just love to play where as boys are more lazy and laid back and will happily fall asleep on your lap!!!
Go with the rats!!!!! xx

I would go also with rats. As stated above me, I agree with all. I have 3 boys right now.
I've bred guineapigs for 12 years and well they can get messy and the bedding can get smelly to clean. But they also do make great pets
I have not owned degu's, but i do plan on it in the future.
Hamsters can be nasty and easily lost.

rats for sure. you mentioned yyou wanted something quieter, and rats are suuper quiet. they dont even like wheels, so that noise is moot. degus get noisy sometimes, theyre like birds if you're into that. rats are really wonderful critters. i find them to be just like dogs in personality, and i love it. rats seem to be born ready to love humans (kinda like dogs). theyre easy to tame, very domesticated, sweet loving things. i get licked to death my timmy loves me so much lol.

Go for the biggest cage you can afford and the biggest you can get for the room you have! Rats need a lot of floor space.......plus they need room to climb etc so a full wire cage would be brilliant! I have the freddy cage for my girls and 2 cages stuck together for my boys to give them extra room!!!

It really is up to your wants.
Both males and females are very friendly.Males however are better "lap rats",being lazy and laid back. They will sit with you while you watch TV or go online.Females on the otherhand are much more active and wanna run around and play and explore. But both make good pets.
Treats can be cheerios,milkbone,shreddies...etc! Fruits and veggies too.
I currently have 4 males.

yay ratties, i hope you're allowed to get some, because they're amazing!! they're little dogs in rat bodies. love to lick you and play with your hands. as vanrat said, boys are more relaxed and girls are more playful. my boy is pretty chill, but he's curious and likes to check things out. but he won't hesitate to sleep in my sweater sleeve while i type LOL

I decided to take this opportunity to share pics of my babies!!
This is my baby ~Ninja~.I should not pick favorites, but he definatly has my heart BIG time.He is a little over 1 yr.

~Frosty~ was a rat bred by me awhile ago.I then gave him to a cousin and recently she had to return him to me.He is about 2 yrs old.

~Kahlua~ is the baby of the bunch. He is a little siamese. He is only about 2-3 months old.

And last but certainly not least is ~Rascal~.He is about 8 months old or so and my newest addition to my ratty "mischief".

Hmmm...any other info? Lets see...rats are addicting! You will soon find that you get GGMR syndrome! (Gotta Get More Rats). You will definatly like rats!

rats are very addicting lol. I have both girls and boys I love them all but I'd have to say that the dumbo eared ones are the sweetest. Esp. my little dumbo boy buddy

I have to agree!
I have two standards and two dumbos and while they are all sweet,my two dumbos are much more cuddly and kissy. But it does depend on the rat too.
