Degu Problems!

Ok. My Adult Male Degu, Bonzi, has been trying to mate with his sons. x.x
Well, they don't like it AT ALL, so when he tries to do so, they start screaming at each other and end up being a fighting ball of brown fur. The 3 little boys, miraculously, don't have any showing of any swelling, scratches, marks, cuts, etc. Two days ago, the only injury I saw on Bonzi, was a small scratch on this back, nothing major, and his nose was cut a small bit. It didn't seem to hurt him when I touched it, so I just left it.

Well, today, about 30 minutes ago, my sister brought Bonzi downstairs and showed me his nose. It was completely cut up. It's all raggy and red from a small amount of blood. I put Bonzi in a temp cage by himself right next to the cage where the others are so they can still see and talk to each other, but can not engage in physical activity. He seems OK, but I don't know. =/

I know very well from reading stories of sorts where Degus are great at hiding and pain until it's too late. I don't think that his body itself is hurting or has anything wrong that can effect him, but with his nose cut up, I don't know if he can breath well or not.

Like I said, he seems ok, but I just don't know for sure. If anyone can help me with this, please, please post here, or send me a PM or an e-mail.

Bonzi's nose seems to be doing well. It's still a bit ruffed up though.
He seems ok. So I'm not as worried as I was, but still a bit.

They keep screaming at eachother. =(

I have to seperate them now.
Well, I needed to like, weeks ago. But the little boys hate the dad.
x.x
This is so bad. =(

I'm sorry you have to separate them . How old are the babies?

Sometimes degus fall out for no reason whatsoever, they can be friends one minute and hate each other the next its a problem especially with males around the age of maturity. How old are the babies? Are they getting to the age of sexual maturity do you think? Also do you keep them near the females? As keeping intact male degus near females can cause fights due to the females scent, even from a cage across the other side of the room.

You did the right thing seperating them and its probably best to keep them that way for now. Regards Bonzis nose i would maybe bath it with a little salted water to try and prevent any infection and keep a close eye on it till its healed. Sending healing vibes Bonzi's way

i definitely agree with separating them, at least for now. i've heard degus have a high pain tolerance, and they hide it well. I kind of feel that to be true, based on my own experiences. anyhow, at least keep them apart but beside each other, let them start missing each other for a while before you reintroduce. best wishes!!! *hugs*

The babies are 2 months today. Yes, they are near the girls. I knew that might be starting problems. We're trying to plan on building a cage, but the chances of that being soon, are little to none. Thanks for the help you guys. =D
