Gasping rat, please help!!
I think my rat has a lung infection, I'm really worried about her. This evening she has been finding it hard to breath and has been gasping, she has had phorphrin stains around her eyes and nose for about a week now and I thought it was nothing, she is moving a lot slower, but is still eating and drinking normally. I can't take her to the vets tommorow because it's sunday and their closed. Is there anything I can do to help her breath more easy or to make her more comfortable, and should I keep my other rat with her, please if anyone has any info please tell me. Thankyou.

keep them together for company, keep them out of drafty places, fresh water and food at an easy access level. take her in to the vet tomorrow. until then just let her rest and make everything at one level since exerting herself is causing her to lose her breath

I think that it might be a cold so my mum suggested that we put some ulbus oil in water and keep in the room, is this a good idea?

a humidifier would help her a lot. If you don't have one take her into the bathroom and run a hot shower. (or take her in when you're in the shower).
Definitely take her to the vet ASAP! Actually you should take both rats or ask the vet for meds for both. Infections and the like are very contagious. Is the other rat sneezing at all? Sometimes it affects each rat differently.
You can also give her a bit of dark chocolate or semi sweet chocolate. Chocolate can actually alleviate symptoms of URI.

It sounds like it could be an RI or myco. And most likely your other rat will catch it.Take them into the vet and get some antibiotics.

Also a VERY little bit of dark chocolate can help with their breathing, Just makes things easyer. Also I've found that leaveing them on the toliet seat while you have a shower really helps.

I took both my rats to the vets and he says that the ill one has an early stage of phumonia (don't know how to spell it, lol) and the other has a very minor case of it. He has given me some antibiotics for the both of them, but it is a liquid that has to be given through an oral syringe and they hate it, I took me over 15 mins to do just one and she kept spitting it out, any tips? And thankyou for the support ^_^

I have had rats that hated the syringe as well.So in those cases, you can put their dose in some baby food.I use something like strawberry or some other fruit one for meds, because they will lick it all up and get their dose.

MAN it can be tough to treat rats with that yucky stuff, but has to be done of course!! I know you can get banana so ask for that as they HATE the strawberry and DON'T taste like it at all!! It will make giving them the medicine a lot easier. I had to wrap mine in a towel to keep them from resisting the treatment but they swallowed it when I rubbed their nose. Good luck!

I put it on a buiscuit this morning and they ate it and I rubbed a bit on their paws so that they licked it off, are these both ok?

Have they gotten the full dose? It is alright,as long as they get ALL of the meds into them.
