Help I am really worried about my kitten
ALOHA
I am very worried about my Kitten, I took him to the vet a week ago because he became very suddenly sick. The vet prescribed Clavamox, and I gave it to him 2x a day. He became sicker, and sicker, I called the vet and they said to let the AB time to work. He is about 7 months old and became very listless, afraid of me and the rest of family, hiding, sleeping the clock round, if I let him. Then in the evenings, he would appear to become miraculously healed. The next day it would be the same, sleeping all day, crying when I picked him up, looking dehydrated. Then in the evening he get's up, goes and eats, drinks, and uses the litter box. It is so bizzare.............one minute I feel like he is DYING, and the next he's at the food dish and playing with his toy......... Has anyone ever heard of such a thing. Please help

Wow Jenny, I'm sorry to hear about your kitty! What was the diagnosis from the vet? Something definately doesn't sound right with the way he is acting..especially him being so young. I know Smokie got worms from his momma cat when he was a kitten and we first brought him home, and we hardly knew anything was wrong with him. I would definately call the vet back again, and tell them what is going on.. or maybe even get a second opinion. Was this happening before the Clavamox with his behavior? It could be quite possible this is a side effect from the medication..
I hope everything is ok with your kitten.

Kittens sleep a lot, you know. And what do you mean by dehydrated?

Dehydration is when the animal or humans for that matter donot get enough daily fluids and electrolytes to maintain balance. In turn we get build up of toxins and other chemicals that can result in electrolyte imbalances/kidney damage and many other severe complications if not corrected immediately. Can result in death also.

I never heard of this, I would deffinitely call my vet back or just him in. He maybe a night time personality and sleeping in the day, especially if he is fine at night time but yes call your vet.

It sounds as though something is happening overnight. Your kitten is fine in the evening, but by morning is sick enough to hide and sleep all day. Where is your kitten sleeping? Do you have a Memory foam mattress topper? It's being found now that the residue or smell from it, travels through the sheets, and has made more than a few pets , sick. What is happening overnight to cause these symptoms during the day?

I appreciate all your comments. He was doing ok, and took him back to vet. He gave him Baytril, and anti-inflammatory for fever, he was doing much better, and now today, he is back to sleeping all day, and seems to have trouble walking. His back legs go out from under and him and he is wobbly??? I don't know what is wrong with him. He feels lighter to me and isn't eating much today. It is night time here, and he is still the same, so I don't think the "daytime" theory is working. Has anyone ever had a cat with Toxocara? or CH? do you know what the signs are???
Mahalo, (also he is 1/2 siamese, if that matters)

Get a second oppinion from another Vet, one that specializes in cats if possible.
I had a siamese that came in once that had a rare disease, which paralized his back legs eventually, I'm sorry i cannot remember more about the disease, bit I would write down all his symptoms and see another Vet.

Sounds like some sort of neuropathy possibly. Any signs of diabetes at all? Definitely find a vet who specializes in cats. Maybe just look over this link also http://laurieulrich.com/jasper/ Either way if it's something neurological the cause needs to be figured out.

It just dawned on me. I had been reading up, some days ago, about candidiasis. One of the first symptoms is , what seems to be unrelated symptoms, that you really don't tie all together. In that way it's insidious and hard to diagnose. Extreme sensitivity to touch is one of the first signs, so is lethargy. So are panic or fear attacks , as it progresses, muscle weakness, etc. Although the link below is for humans, I think you can see how all of your cat's symptoms can be found there. If the limbs are weak and numb, which can happen with candidiasis, then the back legs will give out. If your cat's skin is painful to the touch, then he will cry out when picked up. If he has panic attacks and lethargy and sleeping alot , it can all be related to candidasis. Your cat's symptoms, as they progress, also fall in line with how the link below shows how candidiasis progresses. What candidiasis does is it starts in one area, then it invades the bloodstream and travels to all parts of the body including , eventually the brain, when it can lead to blindness , stroke and seizures in its last stages. Apple cider vinegar will kill candidasis. You can get it in capsule form from a health food store. Grapefruit seed extract will also kill candidiasis. It's highly concentrated so it has to be diluted. A couple of drops diluted in about one tablespoon or water several or more times a day. You could think about starting with that. Grapefruit seed extract will also fight a whole host of bacterial and viral infections so if there happens to be one there, it will seek it out and kill it.

Is his tummy hard? like his lower abdomen...my kitten last year ended up getting a UTI from being spayed, and the first vet kept brushing it off and saying there was nothing we could do...she also started dragging her hind legs around, sure enough a few days later she started peeing blood...major sign of a UTI...keep us updated.

I have a CH kitty
Just to put my 2 cents worth in, I don't think it would be CH. CH kitties are born with that, and it's noticeable from the day they first walk. I hope your kitty is gonna be fine.....I know you're gonna give it alot of love and care.

Well, i dont ever recall hearing of anything that would have your kitty dragging the back feet around. what my advice is, is if it doesnt hurt him then lay him in your lap and massage his muscles. that might help if hes dragging them around because of pain, other than that i dont know what to say. My kitty was dragging his feets around for a while before he got ran over and we found out that he had some kind of problem whith his hip, so my vet taught me to massage his muscles so he could get up and eat or get a drink. Best wishes and lots of hugs. hope he gets better.
